What is the Warm Home Discount?

Customers who live in England and Wales do not need to apply for the Warm Home Discount rebate, instead the scheme offers a payment of £150 towards the energy bills of households with the lowest incomes and highest energy costs.
These are the households who need it the most.
The scheme has two categories, Core Group 1 and Core Group 2.
Customers in England and Wales do not need to contact their energy supplier to receive the Warm Home Discount
For customers who live in Scotland, the scheme has two categories; Core Group 1 and the Broader Group.
Customers who live in England and Wales do not need to apply for the Warm Home Discount rebate, instead the scheme offers a payment of £150 towards the energy bills of households with the lowest incomes and highest energy costs.

For customers who live in Scotland, the scheme has two categories; Core Group 1 and the Broader Group.
Core Group 1
If we were supplying your electricity on the qualifying date, 11th August 2024, you are of pensionable age and received the Guaranteed Element of Pension Credit on the qualifying date then you are eligible for the Core Group 1 rebate.
You will receive a letter from HM Government between October 2024 and January 2025 confirming whether you are eligible to receive the rebate.
Core Group 2
You do not need to apply for Core Group 2, instead, HM Government will use data matching to identify eligible households.
This data matching uses a combination of property characteristics data such as property age, type and floor area alongside means tested benefits data to identify households that are likely to have the highest energy costs and a low household income.
If we were supplying your electricity on the qualifying date, 11th August 2024, and you are in receipt of at least one of the following means tested benefits, you may be eligible for the Core Group 2 rebate if your property is also considered to have high energy costs:
- Income Related Employment Support Allowance
- Income Based Job Seeker’s Allowance
- Income Support
- Housing Benefit
- Universal Credit
- Child Tax Credits with low household income
- Working Tax Credits with low household income
- Pension Credit Savings Credit
You will receive a letter from HM Government between October 2024 and January 2025 confirming whether you are eligible to receive the rebate.
Please remember, E do not decide which households are eligible and can only pay rebates to eligible households following instruction from HM Government.
How and when will the rebate be paid?
The Core Group 1 and Core Group 2 rebates will be paid to eligible customers by 31st March 2025.
Standard prepayment meter you will receive the rebate as energy vouchers which can be redeemed for electricity or gas credit at a top-up outlet.
Smart prepayment meter if you are a dual fuel customer, £75 will be credited to your gas meter and £75 will be credited to your electricity meter. For electricity only customers, £150 will be credited to your electricity meter.
Credit meter the rebate will be automatically credited to your energy account.
Core Group
If we were supplying your electricity on the qualifying date, 11th August 2024, and you or someone in your household is of pensionable age and receive the Guaranteed Element of Pension Credit, then you are eligible for the Core Group rebate of £150..
You don’t need to apply if you’re in the Core Group, instead you will receive a letter from HM Government between October 2024 and January 2025 detailing what to do.
Broader Group – Applications will open via this page later in 2024
We will soon be accepting applications into a Broader Group which is determined by a wider set of eligibility criteria.
The Broader Group has a limited number of rebates available for households in Scotland which are awarded on a first come, first served basis to those who apply and are eligible*. The Broader Group rebate will be £150..
*Applicants may be asked to provide evidence to confirm their eligibility. In order to be eligible for the Warm Home Discount Broader Group, you will need to have your energy supply with us at the time of your application and still have your supply with us when the rebate is awarded.
How and when will the rebate be paid?
The Core Group and Broader Group rebates will be paid to eligible customers by 31st March 2025.

Smart Prepayment Meter the £150 rebate will be credited directly to your smart meter(s), you can choose which meter(s) via your application form.
Credit Meter the £150 rebate will be credited directly to your energy account and you’ll see this on your next statement.
