I am also a DnD player and I wanted to ask you, do you ever feel disconnected from your characters? I am currently playing a campaign set in Ravnica from Magic the Gathering and I absolutely love it (100% recommend as a setting as well) and I love my character Daphne, but for some reason the past few sessions I've been feeling very withdrawn and unhappy with my RP choices, I feel Daphne very far away from me If that makes sense? Have you ever experienced something similar? Would love to hear your thoughts on this!!

Oh man, I’m sorry to hear you’re feeling disconnected. It’s such a bummer when something that got us so immersed and invested feels more distant.
I’ve only played one campaign with the same character, so I’m not sure if I can give the best advice here. But yes, I do know the unfortunate phenomena! I’m actually struggling with the same thing right now so maybe we can figure it out togethaa. I’ll answer more in-depth under the cut but if anyone else has tips, do feel free to drop them.

I watched Critical Role where it first came up, and then found it here on the dnd wikidot. They later changed details in a new rule and campaign book, so maybe that explains the different versions?
I bought the Tal'Dorei Reborn Campaign setting which made some significant changes to it, also available for free on dnd wikidot! (I’ll discuss them under the cut LOL you’ve activated my cleric trap card) But I don’t love the changes too much. In the end, my DM and I did a mix and match of both versions.

we’re all native german speakers so it’s (mostly) german! though we stick to the original english terms for classes, locations etc of DnD and the module.
we love english……. but it’s great fun speaking in more elevated/old-fashioned german for CoS heh

are the Lydia Vallokovich drawings and stuff from you playing to or listening a particular groups playing the campaign? A bunch of the tags say curse of strahd which is a think a premade campaign? where do you get the flavor?
It’s from a Curse of Strahd campaign I’m a player in, together with @vivtanner and @nudlmonster! And yes, it’s an official DnD module, though heavily modified through the fantastic Curse of Strahd community and our DM’s huge brain.
Your Lydia art sustains me. You've made her absolutely gorgeous. The grey streaks and the soft expressions and the wrinkles. My heart is fluttering. Your art is also a big inspiration for me. Seeing your art of Lydia got me to work on my designs for the Vallakovich family in my game (I inserted my pc into the Vallakovich family as another child and added to the family history).
Also your ship art between Fiona and Lydia is truly chef's kiss. Love that for them.

Hi! I'm sorry if this has been asked before but do you use any textures in your work? I love the traditional feel it gives your pieces!!!! your CoS art gives me life
tysm 🙏❤️ I do, but not always. I sometimes use textured brushes for flats, which mostly does the job, though more often than not I’ll add a noise filter on top. Every now and then I use a grainy, stained, paper texture on top, depending on the drawing.
I think I got most of my textures off Deviantart back when it still was a thing haha

I’m actually not really an illustrator for TTRPGs, I mostly work in illustration (book covers). The current project is tied to a Tarot deck I got hired for together with @vivtanner, and the same client wanted to make a TTRPG based on the worldbuilding.
Would love to work more in this field though. Interior art and character/outfit design is lots of fun….
