History

edit

The station started as Radio Malaya operating out of George Town, Penang, on 1 April 1946. With the independence of Malaya on 31 August 1957, Radio Malaya was split into two; the original studios in Singapore was taken over by a new station called Radio Singapura (currently known as Mediacorp Radio) and Radio Malaya moved to Kuala Lumpur going on air from the new location on 1 January 1959.

On 19 January 1971, Radio Malaya was known as Rangkaian Nasional (National Network) started broadcasting 24 hours a day as the first station in the country to do so.

On 1 January 1989, Rangkaian Nasional was known as Radio 1.

Its other predecessor, RIMA, which was planned to launch as of 1997, was only described as a "24 hour" "Malay traditional music and songs" radio station. [1]

Radio Klasik adopts the classic hits, easy listening and Oldies radio format with the majority of the playlist consisting of Classic hits, Easy listening and Oldies music from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

On daily features Golden Oldies music from the 1950s and 1960s.
