Karen Lynn Gorney

edit

The article does not state a date of birth; since the cited Los Angeles Times article from 1990 says she was then 44, she must have been born in 1955 or 1956. 2600:1702:20:29A0:8429:6D41:4924:BD3F (talk) 07:00, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Make that 1945 or 1946. 2600:1702:20:29A0:8429:6D41:4924:BD3F (talk) 07:01, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for pointing that out. I have added a "Birth based on age as of date" template to the lead and infobox. I appreciate your help. Eddie Blick (talk) 01:45, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth

edit

I have reverted a date of birth that was added. No citation was added to the article to accompany the added date, but the accompanying edit summary said, "According to IMDb.com & the Californiabirthindex.org, 1/28/1945 is her date of birth". Neither of those sources can be used for her date of birth.

  • IMDb is not a reliable source. See WP:IMDB.
  • California Birth Index cannot be used as a citation for content about a living person. WP:BLPPRIMARY specifies, ""Do not use trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents, to support assertions about a living person. Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, ..."

Additionally, changing the lead from the "Birth based on age as of date" template to a date implied that the cited article from the Los Angeles Times gives her date of birth when (as noted in the "Karen Lynn Gorney" section above) it gives only her age at the time the cited article was published. Date of birth (again)

edit

I have reverted an addition of a date of birth. The change was unsourced in the article, but the edit summary said, "According to californiabirthindex ..." State birth records cannot be used to support a date of birth or other content about a living person. WP:BLPPRIMARY specifies, ""Do not use trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents, to support assertions about a living person. Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, ..." Eddie Blick (talk) 00:39, 15 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Another date of birth reversion

edit

I have reverted an edit that added a date of birth with the edit summary "Karen Lynn Gorney was born on 28 January 1945. Period."

As far as I can see, the article contains no source for that date of birth (or any other date of birth). We need a source, basically because of Wikipedia:Citing sources but also (since Gorney is a living person) because of WP:BLPPRIVACY.

Inclusion of a date of birth would be good, but only if we have an accompanying source that meets Wikipedia standards cited in the article. Eddie Blick (talk) 02:13, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
