A number of edits have just been made to this article. Most of these were valid but I wonder if further consideration could be given to the following (which I have provisionally deleted):
(i) The refence to the Primo de Rivera coup of 1923: did this actually have any direct connection with the use of Moroccan troops as ceremonial guards at the Royal Palace that year or was it simply a coincidence resulting from increased public awareness of the Army of Africa? If the former then I will restore the passage with apologies.
(ii) Spanish and International condemnation of the use of Moorish troops in the suppression of the Asturian rising of 1934. Was this actually because of atrocities committed by the Regulares? If so could we have a cited source reference please. My reading of (admittedly foreign) contemporary media reporting on the suppression of the rising suggests that (a) the Civil Guard and the Legion were responsible for most of the actual reprisals; and (b) criticism outside Spain of the involvement of Regulares largely reflected racially based distaste of the time for the use of "native" colonial troops in Europe.
(iii) The comment that the Regulares in the Civil War of 1936-39 were "feared and hated by Spaniards because they perpetuated many massacres on the civilian population". Certainly this was true but their "undoubted brutality" is already referred to earlier in this section and the Spanish Civil War (like many civil wars) was notable for atrocities on both sides. Should the Regulares carry the major blame for this when the Tercio, Republican militias, Falangists etc largely escape criticism - at least in Wikipedia coverage?
(iv) Finally, the comment that Franco's Moorish ceremonial honour guard was "greatly resented by many Spaniards". Quite possibly but could we have a cited reference for what might otherwise appear a POV statement. buistR 22:07, 4 May 2010 (UTC) (buistR 22:07, 4 May 2010 (UTC))
