From Ottoman Turkish كتیرمك (getirmek), from earlier *gẹl-tür-mek, equivalent to gel- (to come) + -tir (causative suffix). Doublet of geldirmek and geldirtmek. Compare oturmak (to sit) for the loss of -l- in -lt-.
