On Tuesday night, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) "approximately 40 projectiles crossed from Lebanon into the area of the central Golan Heights." Hezbollah also said they launched "dozens of Katyusha rockets" at Israel. Sources from the Lebanese military said that about 100 missiles were launched. A civilian couple, Noa and Nir Baranes, were killed by a rocket driving to their home in Kibbutz Ortal. Several fires were also reported to have broken out due to the attacks.

It was reported that "The funeral date will be announced later. The Ortal community is strong and shocked, and is supporting the family and dealing with the situation." In a statement, the community said that "a heavy blow fell on Kibbutz Ortal" and "Noa and Nir Baranes, members of the kibbutz, were killed by a direct hit to their car. Noa and Nir, aged 46, were central and beloved figures in Ortal. They moved to Ortal in 2012. Nir managed the poultry department and before that, the tourism and culture department. Noa was secretary of the orchard department. The couple had three children aged 13, 16 and 18."

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the rocket attack, saying that it targeted Nafah base. This, Hezbollah said, was in response to the death of Yasser Qarnabash in Syria. An Israeli military spokesman stated that "we do not comment on reports in the foreign media"

16 IDF soldiers and 10 Israeli civilians have been killed by Hezbollah attacks since October 8, 2023.

This came amidst the recent escalation after the October 7, 2023 attack. The attack killed 1,139 Israelis, including 373 members of the security forces, 695 civilians (including 36 children), and 71 foreigners. In addition, nearly 250 Israelis were taken hostage. During the attack, more than 3,000 Hamas gunmen crossed the border, as well as nearly 6,000 rockets were fired. Sources indicate numerous acts of sexual assault resulted during this conflict. Thousands of rockets are also reported to have been fired during the attack. In response, Israel declared war on Hamas and mobilized 350,000 reservists. Up to May 2024, Israel says they have killed 14,000 terrorists and 16,000 civilians during the war, while Hamas says that 35,000 people have been killed.
