Ranaso (born Isma Ignisean Omari on June 13, 1988) is a Kenyan music artist known for his contributions to the pop and Afrobeat genres. He gained significant recognition for his socially conscious music that addresses themes of peace, unity, and social justice.
Early Life and Background
[edit]Ranaso was born in Mbale, Uganda, to Kenyan parents. Shortly after his birth, his mother returned with him to Kenya following a brief separation from his father. Raised in Kenya, Ranaso's upbringing and experiences greatly influenced his musical style and lyrical content.
Career
[edit]Ranaso began his music career with the release of several singles that showcased his unique sound and thought-provoking lyrics. His breakthrough came during the Gen Z uprising in Kenya, a period marked by widespread protests against the proposed finance bill, corruption, and the high cost of living. In response to the unrest, Ranaso released the song "Tujadiliane Tusigombane (Tubonge)," which quickly gained traction both locally and internationally for its powerful message promoting peace, unity, and love among the youth. The song was prominently played every hour on Citizen TV throughout the six weeks of protests, amplifying its impact.
The success of "Tujadiliane Tusigombane" inspired Ranaso to create a full-length album. In 2024, he released "Amani Afrika" (Peaceful Africa), a 10-track album that further cemented his status as a significant voice in the music industry. The album has been well-received and continues to perform well on various online streaming platforms.
