Ehsan Ul Haq Bajwa (Urdu: احسان الحق باجوہ; born 4 March 1972) is a prominent Pakistani politician and businessman, currently serving as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He has held this position since February 2024 and previously served from August 2018 to August 2023.[1] Before his tenure in the National Assembly, he was a member of the Provincial Assembly of the Punjab from May 2013 to May 2018.[2]

Early life and education

He was born on 4 March 1972 in Dahranwala, Bahawalnagar District, to Haji Abdul Sattar, a Deputy Superintendent in Police, businessman, and agriculturist. Growing up in a family with a strong background in public service and business, Bajwa developed a keen interest in both fields from an early age.[2] He received a Diploma in Associate Engineering from Government College of Technology, Bahawalpur, in 1992.[2]

Business career

He is not only a politician but also a highly successful businessman and agriculturist. He operates numerous companies worldwide, including Big Crane General Transport LLC in the UAE, which has a net worth of billions of AED. His business ventures span various industries, and he owns more than 32,000 acres of agricultural land in Pakistan. In 2020, he was named the richest parliamentarian in Pakistan, with assets exceeding 50 billion PKR, most of which are held abroad.[3]

He is affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League (N), a mainstream right-wing political party in Pakistan. His political career is marked by significant achievements and contributions to his constituency and the nation.[1]

General Elections 2013

He began his political career in 2013 by contesting the General Elections for a seat in the Provincial Assembly of Punjab. He was elected as a Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Constituency PP-281 (Chishtian, Bahawalnagar) with a total of 36,704 votes. During his tenure, he served as the Chairman of the Committee on Government Assurances from 2013 to 2018, where he played a crucial role in ensuring the implementation of government commitments.[2]

General Elections 2018

In the General Elections 2018, he contested for a seat in the National Assembly from Constituency NA-168 (Chishtian). He was elected with the highest lead and vote margin in Pakistan, securing a total of 124,218 votes and defeating Fatima Tahir Cheema, a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). His victory was a testament to his popularity and the trust his constituents placed in him.[1][4]

In 2020, Bajwa was appointed as the President of the Gulf Region for PML-N, further expanding his influence and responsibilities within the party. By 2023, he also took on the role of Coordinator UAE for International Affairs of PML-N, highlighting his significant contributions to the party's international outreach.[5]

General Elections 2024

In the General Elections 2024, he once again contested for a seat in the National Assembly from Constituency NA-162 (Chishtian). He was re-elected with a high lead and vote margin, securing a total of 114,284 votes and defeating Khalil Ahmed Arrain, a candidate of PTI. His continued success in elections underscores his strong connection with his constituents and his effective leadership.[6][7]

In 2024, he was appointed as the Federal Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis & Human Resource Development by Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif. This appointment reflects his extensive experience and commitment to addressing the needs of overseas Pakistanis and enhancing human resource development. In this role, he is expected to leverage his business acumen and international connections to foster better opportunities and support for Pakistanis living abroad.[8]

Dubai Leaks 2024

In 2024, his name surfaced in the Dubai Leaks, which revealed his ownership of dozens of properties worth billions of dollars in Dubai. These revelations highlighted his extensive investments and significant wealth, further establishing him as one of the richest Pakistanis. The properties included luxury apartments, commercial buildings, and prime real estate, showcasing his business acumen and successful ventures abroad. Despite the controversies surrounding the leaks, Bajwa maintained that all his assets were acquired legally and transparently, reinforcing his commitment to ethical business practices.[9][10][11]
