[edit]

The article says that Doris Lessing stepped in to replace Bester at the 1987 Worldcon (Conspiracy in Brighton, UK). In fact Lessing had already been announced as the UK guest of honour before Bester dropped out. There were a large number of official guests for that convention, also including the Strugatsky brothers from the USSR.
