WikiProject COVID-19

[edit]

I've created WikiProject COVID-19 as a temporary or permanent WikiProject and invite editors to use this space for discussing ways to improve coverage of the ongoing 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. Please bring your ideas to the project/talk page. Stay safe, --Another Believer (Talk) 17:31, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

GRAPH

[edit]

I've inserted a Graph. Please help improve it. The X axis is the date (March 2020), and the Y axix is number of confirmed cases.Muffizainu (talk) 15:18, 17 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Muffizainu: Thank you for your contributions to the article and for the graph. Abishe (talk) 14:47, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Template:2019–20 coronavirus pandemic data/Sri Lanka

[edit]

Please can anyone comment about the current graph that depicting the "COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka" is correct or not.--L Manju (talk) 16:32, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@L Manju: At first sight it looks wrong. Today's situation report (the latest we have) says as at 10am on 28 March there were 106 cases, not 110.--Obi2canibe (talk) 20:25, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Obi2canibe: Thank you for your comment. Changes have been done after your comment. But still this graph shows us false information. According to it the first death in SL has been recorded today (Mar 29). But we know that was yesterday (Mar 28). The last report by the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health (Situation Report 62 ( 10 : 00 HRS )) has a bar chart under the title "New patients - Sri Lanka". It shows that there were no patients on 25 March & 27 March. The current graph says that were in 26& 28 March. But we know that yesterday 9 new cases were recorded. --L Manju (talk) 09:56, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@L Manju: You are correct, the graph is wrong with regard to the death. All the news sources say the death occurred yesterday (28 March). I myself first read about it yesterday. You are also correct in that there were no new cases on 25 March and 27 March.
The problem is that the situation is changing rapidly and data is being updated several times a day by officials. Often this results in old data becoming outdated. However, the template is being edited by unregistered and new users who aren't being diligent in checking the data, particularly previous days' data. I suggest you ask for Template:2019–20 coronavirus pandemic data/Sri Lanka medical cases chart to be semi-protected.--Obi2canibe (talk) 14:26, 29 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Obi2canibe:@L Manju: Health Ministry official EOD (End of Day) report for a given day get published at 10.00 am, following day. So there are discrepancies between live updated numbers and official numbers for the day.The better source would be the daily situation update published here. [1] Nishadhi (talk) 16:55, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I corrected the data as per the official reports. The first local patient got admitted to IDH on 10th, but diagnosed on 11th and fist appeared on the the 12th report which was the EOD report for the 11th. (Confusing isn't it?) So the Data was changed accordingly. Nishadhi (talk) 17:51, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nishadhi: Yes that is true. The report published today contains the data of the previous day. But without understanding this simple matter some users edited this template in a wrong manner --L Manju (talk) 04:51, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: I don't understand your reason Chanakal. We all can discuss it here. Nishadhi (talk) 05:33, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Obi2canibe:@Nishadhi: The following bar chart was extracted from the "Situation report 65 ( 10 : 00 HRS)" by Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka. It clearly shows the correct X and Y axes values. --L Manju (talk) 05:48, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This bar chart was extracted from the "Situation report 65 ( 10 : 00 HRS)" by Epidemiology Unit, Ministry of Health, Sri Lanka
@L Manju: I mentioned this already. April 2nd report contains not only patients recorded on April 1st, but patients reported on April 2nd until 10 am. If the report is issued in the midnight, then your logic is correct.--Chanaka L (talk) 13:09, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: Then how can you explain the discrepancy in "number of daily cases" between the epid lk data and our graph? If Epidemiology Unit put forward their data as such, we have to adhere to the same conventions. Otherwise graph would be Original research. Regards. Nishadhi (talk) 15:13, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nishadhi: Can you be more specific? What dataset are you referring to?--Chanaka L (talk) 15:36, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: My bad, I linked it earlier but forgot to mention it here. This is the daily situation report page [2]. And here is the official report on 02/04/2020 for the previous 24 hours [3]. See the daily new patients graph. Nishadhi (talk) 16:30, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal: Every local sources including the news portals use this graph as the correct one because it is the official report that published by the government. The current wiki chart however, misleads the readers easily by giving wrong data about the today situation. According to the current wiki chart, today we have new 5 cases and the total is at 148. But we know that the total number of patients today are 151. So what should we do for that error. The Health Promotion Bureau of Sri Lanka here gives us a live update about the today situation. We can use it in our chart to denote the today values (ex: COVID-19 Situation Report by HPB on 2 April 2020 at 21:04 = 151 confirmed cases. 5 new cases. 21 recovered & discharged. 4 deaths). Otherwise, as already said by Nishadi, this wiki chart will be appeared to others as an original work done by few unknown Wikipedia users:- hence an unreliable source.--L Manju (talk) 18:09, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
See this government site also - COVID-19 : Live Situational Analysis Dashboard of Sri Lanka. It clearly shows that our current chart is wrong --L Manju (talk) 08:48, 4 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

<ref>Under Religious Services section, only catholic and Islamic contributions have been mentioned. However most of effort and support has been given by Buddhist monasteries and temples. Sri Lankan buddhist monks started Pirith Chanting to pray to combat against Covid19 island wide temples started this daily (See source: https://www.indiatoday.in/world/story/sri-lanka-offers-buddhist-prayers-to-combat-covid-coronavirus-1655955-2020-03-16). Many monks directed people to support the combat by supplying medical items, food items and many supplies to keep lifestyle of people. They organized awareness programmes like in buddhist television channels such as Pragna TV (http://www.pragnatv.lk/) and SraddhaTV (https://www.shraddha.lk/). Some monasteries such as Mahamevna Asapuwa started projects including developing masks and face shields for health sector (Source: https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/disinfectantfaceshield?source=feed_text&epa=HASHTAG&__tn__=*NKH-R).

Under Research and development section, mention efforts of Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology and University of Peradeniya. Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology developed antimicrobial surface nano-coating to disinfect viruses. The coating has been applied in hospitals such as Homagama base hospital. The institute in collaboration with SrddhaTV developed 10000 face shields coated with this antimicrobial coating. SLINTEC also reverse engineered and manufactured swabs for covid19 tests with the daily capacity of 3000 (Source: https://www.facebook.com/slintec/posts). University of Peradeniya scientists and engineers developed another antimicrobial paint (At Department of chemistry, Faculty of Science and postgraduate institute of Science, University of Peradeniya) which will be applied in hospitals (Source: https://www.facebook.com/123380532393978/photos/a.180485446683486/245879460144084/?type=3&theater). Engineers of faculty of engineering, University of Peradeniya has repaired and developed oxygen respiratory systems and ICU beds (Source: http://www.dailymirror.lk/news-features/COVID-19-outbreak-in-Sri-Lanka-Help-us-to-help-you-request-medics/131-186092). National Science Foundation of Sri Lanka allocated funding to combat covid19 pandemic and called proposals from Sri Lankan scientists (Source:http://www.nsf.gov.lk/index.php/component/content/article/921-call-for-proposals-to-combat-covid-19-and-mitigate-its-impact.html).

Kindly include above details to each section of this article. Mantilaka (talk) 08:57, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

checkYDone @Mantilaka: Thank you for bringing the missed important information and I modified your information and added them in relevant sections. Sources especially social media platforms such as Facebook are not reliable and I added only the news sources from newspapers and press releases. Abishe (talk) 17:52, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for considering Abishe Abishe. Please see reliable sources to confirm antimicrobial face shields to combat Covid19 prepared by Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology in collaboration with SraddhaTV owned by Mahamevna Buddhist Monastery (Source: http://www.mostr.gov.lk/web/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=170:ideal-solutions-for-covid-19-spreading&catid=8:events&lang=en&Itemid=200#sri-lanka-institute-of-nanotechnology-slintec). This will also contain antimicrobial paint developed at Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology. SLINTEC swab parduction is given in sources: https://www.slintec.lk/slintec-produces-swabs-for-covid-19-tests/, https://www.businessnews.lk/blog/2020/04/13/slintec-manufacture-swabs-for-covid-19-tests/, https://apparelresources.com/business-news/trade/sri-lankas-hi-fashion-holdings-start-manufacturing-covid-19-test-swabs/.
