[edit]

A large part of this article is copied from Louis the German.

Which parts? PrinceofFrancia (talk) 10:47, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the current version and copied none of it from that article. Perhaps parts have been copied over to Louis's article. Srnec (talk) 23:21, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. Okay. I think I read somewhere about it saying this article was copied. Can’t remember what because it’s been a couple days ago. But thanks for writing this article Srnec:) — Preceding unsigned comment added by PrinceofFrancia (talkcontribs) 06:33, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Carlomans birth

[edit]

Ive seen a couple of sources range from carlomans birth being around 828-830. Does anyone else think it’s more likely he’s born in 828 because he led an army in 842 and I doubt a 12 year old would be able to do that. Much more likely he was at least 13 since that’s the Frankish age of adulthood (however arbitary)

Cheers PrinceofFrancia (talk) 10:48, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That has a certain logic, but if no reliable secondary sources says more than 828–30, that's all we can say. Srnec (talk) 23:21, 11 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. So should we keep it at c.830 or c.828-830 as his birthdate? — Preceding unsigned comment added by PrinceofFrancia (talkcontribs) 06:46, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Around 830" is from the sources cited in notes [1] and [2]. I'm sure I've seen the 828–830 range before, but I'd have to find a reliable source to cite it to before putting it in the article. Srnec (talk) 02:40, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Alright. PrinceofFrancia (talk) 08:36, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen a couple of “828” sources. But they are from 1911 and 1951. Do you think that may be too old? Is there a Wikipedia policy that has a limit of age of sources? PrinceofFrancia (talk) 08:38, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not per se, no. Can you link the source(s)? Srnec (talk) 22:16, 22 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sure.

First is the 1911 Brittanica.

Next is “A dictionary of universal biography of all ages and all peoples”. Carloman is mentioned on page 106 PrinceofFrancia (talk) 13:58, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This looks pretty good. Doesn’t talk about Carloman though as it’s focused on his Uncle Lothair and grandfather Louis, but has a list of references that may be interesting to this topic PrinceofFrancia (talk) 14:08, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey srnec. I saw that you added the citation for 828. Do you think we should just change it to say “Carloman was born between 828-830”, cite the 3 sources, and change the info box to be 829 since that’s the average? PrinceofFrancia (talk) 13:13, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think that "c. 830" covers as far back as 828, which is why I opted to leave it in the lead. Since the major sources say "c. 830" I'd prefer to stick with that, since I do not know why they refuse to be more precise (could be they never thought about it too hard, could be they know something I'm missing). Srnec (talk) 23:46, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sound logic. I would opt for the former because I sincerely doubt they thought much of it. Because, it’s very unlikely a 12 year old would have led armies into battle PrinceofFrancia (talk) 01:28, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Anyway thanks for engaging in an interesting discourse regarding Carloman. I appreciate your time doing so:) PrinceofFrancia (talk) 02:25, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
