Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3??

[edit]

.. had performed the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 at age 21

I know that's what the source says, but, basically, I find this impossible to believe. There, I've said it. Anyone who could get that concerto to performance standard, at any age, would be not just any old piano student, but a really fine performer. It is so challenging that many professional pianists have never even attempted it. For McKay to have done so, means he must have had quite a long performance history as a pianist, because one does not just start learning the piano and play the Rach 3 in your first public appearance. Either that, or he was some kind of musical wunderkind, about whom a lot would have been written before he dropped music and turned to acting. The claim needs to be thoroughly investigated before we just accept it on blind faith. -- User:JackofOz, posing as 202.142.129.66 (talk) 01:54, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As difficult as it is, it is not an impossible work. I first recorded it in Moscow when I was 19. My first performance of the concerto was when I was 18 in Saint Petersburg. One has to be a good musician but hardly a "wunderkind." And there are many great musicians that one never hears anything of. I'm glad this guy could get a steady job acting! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.202.113.201 (talk) 08:48, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
