Some suggestions[edit]

I noted at Yazan's talk page that this page is going to be prepared for DYK. Since El-Kowm is indeed an important site, but also highly complex, I put here some suggestions (which should only be taken as that: suggestions) which might benefit the article:

  • Split off the village and the site into El Kowm (village) and El Kowm (archaeological site) and make El Kowm a disambig page (and update the DYK link if this is done before the DYK hits the main page). Done
  • I suggest changing the organisation of the article into the one I use for my archaeological sites, see for example Tell Shemshara and Jemdet Nasr.
    • In the "History of research" section you deal with the excavations in chronological order (when, where and by whom)
    • In the "The site and its environment" you describe the El Kowm oasis in general and the different sites that have been recognized therein. It might help to create a pushpin map for the area to locate the different sites, if that info is available. You can discuss here the current environment and the palaeoenvironment, if that info is available.
    • In the "Occupation history" section you deal with the occupation of the El Kowm oasis in chronological order (who occupied the site when, were they hunter/gatherers or farmers, social organization, etc).
    • You can add an extra section "Material culture" in which you describe the different find categories (flint, bone, human skeletons etc) and their development in chronological order.
  • Don't bold the names of the sites within the larger El Kowm oasis; that is not MoS policy and it makes the article look messy, to be honest. Done

I hope these suggestions are useful! -- Zoeperkoe (talk) 17:39, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
