Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti → Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti — All indications is that "Monumental" is an essential part of the name, both officially and colloquially. Article title should mention it. Digirami (talk) 15:48, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move to: River Plate Stadium. There is an English name for the stadium, I suggest it be used instead (per WP:USEENGLISH). It's the name used in the local English newspaper, the Buenos Aires Herald,[1] so there can't be any claim to it not being used locally.--Labattblueboy (talk) 05:13, 23 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    - It is actually. Even ESPN uses it (as well as FIFA and the AP). And I guarantee you that those sources are more widely viewed, and a reflection of common use, than an minor BA newspaper. Digirami (talk) 23:19, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      - The Buenos Aires Herald is the largest English language newspaper in BA so I don't think it's fair to call in minor. FIFA doesn't use appear to use Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti exclusively. I personally found more uses of El Monumental stadium[2]. ESPN didn't use Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, they used Estadio Monumental. So I'd be happy to support River Plate stadium, El Monumental stadium, Estadio Monumental (Buenos Aires). I'm simply not seeing sufficient English usage of Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti to support that option.--Labattblueboy (talk) 17:22, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
        Estadio Monumental is too ambiguous. "Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti" is the best, accurate, unambiguous term for the stadium. Problems with "River Plate stadium" have already been addressed by the comment below this. Digirami (talk) 00:08, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Support: original request. "Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti" (or simply "Monumental") is the common name in the football media. For other topics, journalists sometimes simplify to "River Plate stadium", "Vélez Sársfield stadium", "Boca Juniors stadium", etc. to make it easier for the uninformed reader (they do it in Spanish, as well as in English). As football is the main activity of the stadium, it should be named accordingly to the common usage in that topic. Fache (talk) 05:53, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment – I respect any name except Estadio Monumental since it is not the only stadium to bear this name. Estadio Monumental should be a disambiguation page; not to mention Estadio Monumental in Peru is actually the only stadium to be officially called Estadio Monumental; it is not named after anybody. --MicroX (talk) 04:56, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

text on districts unreadable

In the beginning of the article there is the fragment:

In fact the stadium is on the edge between the two districts, however Nuñez, are a popular neighborhood with bent roots of football, while Belgrano, together with Recoleta and Barrio Norte, the home of the upper-class in Argentina,[3] are the quintessential neighborhoods of Rugby in Buenos Aires.

In my opinion, this fragment is unreadable, I can't connect 'however' and 'are' to anything.

I suppose that the meaning of it is as follows:

The stadium is on the border between two districts, Nuñez, where football is popular, and Belgrano, where rugby is popular instead.

Also some parts of Belgrano, together with some parts of Recoleta and other districts that form Barrio Norte area, are home to upper class, but I suppose this is in any case not so important with regard to this article about the stadium.

I hope locals will check that and make necessary corrections, I've never been to Buenos Aires so I can only guess.188.244.41.173 (talk) 12:00, 16 February 2013 (UTC)radio303[reply]

New name

The stadium recently changed it's name to "Mâs Monumental" due to a sponsorship agreement.
