matters a bit since it involves the development of admiral within the English navy and language.

says he was actually "warden of the Cinque Ports" and, as of 1300, "admiral of the Portsmen". It's unclear from Marsden which language those are in, though.

has, as of 1306, "captain and admiral of the ships of the Cinque Ports and all other ports from Dover to Cornwall" but again no specificity about the actual language of the commission. — LlywelynII 15:49, 25 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
