Dubious claim that " dealings with "natives" before 1886 were the "responsibility of the UK Colonial Office"
[edit]I'm not sure why anyone would say this. The WA government enacted many different acts and regulations regarding Aboriginal people long before 1886, and appointed "Protectors of Natives".
Few of these things were benign or had a genuine interest in the well being of indigenous people, but they were "dealings".
Perhaps someone has mistakenly understood a reference to the Colonial Secretary of Western Australia (who wielded day to day power on behalf of the Governor), as being about the UK Secretary of State for the Colonies (also commonly known as the "Colonial Secretary").
