Maintenance templates[edit]

As a follow up to my posting some maintenance templates earlier, a few things I noticed about this article are:

Inconsistent capitalization throughout the article.
Citations at the end of a sentence should appear before the period.
The article after the lead should be changed to prose where possible. In particular the number of dates in the history section should be reduced.
The products and services section should be eliminated or changed. It basically is a list of financial services and insurance, and it is not surprising or necessary to say that a major financial services/insurance company offers these. I would start with one that is a core part of their business, and write a paragraph (sourced by third party publications) about the ways that they offer them that makes their business unique.

I only started putting references after the period after the advice of someone else I worked with on this site, who helped me edit articles. Is there any particular reason why references can't be made after the period ?

I think dating events frequently makes for a better organized section. other major companies like Sun Life Financial do the same thing even after being reviewed and edited by many people. You're right in that the history section needs more cohesion and maybe that involves reducing the numbers of dates but in doing that we have to remember that major events are sometimes best remembered by their dates.
As compared to other major insurance companies, this one has a very long name that implies that the financial services it offers are different that those offered to people seeking insurance. I still think that the listings in the products and services section (with the hyperlinks) are useful in giving readers a better idea of just what kind of business Industrial Alliance is in.24.222.90.185 (talk) 10:11, 5 May 2010 (UTC)grmike[reply]

is the Industrial Alliance article ready to have any of the templates removed ? the company is about evenly distributed among 11 different divisions. unless someone writes out long articles for each one the best way to include it in the article is in the last section where earch division is given a list of businesses they are involved in. I wrote a small paragraph at the beginning there like you asked and included relevant references. if the only thing that's missing is more information then wouldn't that be a different template ? if the grammar and style of the article is okay now just let me know and I'll remove the templatesGrmike (talk) 01:00, 9 May 2010 (UTC)grmike[reply]
