Cohen?

[edit]

Re: "he [Brel] became a major influence on English-speaking songwriters and performers such as David Bowie, Alex Harvey, Leonard Cohen, Marc Almond and Rod McKuen."

I've read and listened to countless lengthy interviews with Cohen, including a book of collected interviews, read two biographies of Cohen, read nearly all of his Cohen's published poems and his first novel, and own all of his recordings. I've never encountered any reference to Brel in any of this. (As for Bowie, he borrowed at bit of "Jef" for his "Rock and Roll Suicide" and performed a couple of other Brel songs. That doesn't make Brel a major influence on Bowie.) TheScotch (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 09:36, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, Edith Piaf never recorded or sang publicly any song by Brel. In the summer of 1963 she rehearsed "Je m'en remets sur toi", but this went no further. Perhaps the most famous French interpreters of Brel are Barbara and Juliette Greco. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.151.160.222 (talk) 09:07, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
