Canadian Drifters

100 Canadian Drifters (or Admiralty Drifters) were built in Canada. Some sources claim 50 were commissioned into the RCN, 18 went to the US, and the remained to the RN. Of the RN ships many were allocated to serve in Canada. Are there any definitive sources for the disposition of the CDs? Robert Brukner (talk) 05:16, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

Not that I can find. Even Macpherson and Barrie claim that the number of drifters and which ones that served is near impossible to discern. The issue stems that the RN kept changing its mind on the drifters. Originally ordered for the RN, they were then transferred to the Canadians instead of the destroyers Canada wanted on loan. The RCN did not have the personnel nor the arms to man and equip them at the time, so commissioning was piecemeal. Then the RN wanted the first 50 back, then they transferred some the USN so that the US would send some submarine chasers to Halifax. It's incredibly convoluted.
