From WP:RM:

There is no need for a disambiguation page to have a title ending in " (disambiguation)". That is only necessary when the page without that ending is already occupied by another article. --Stemonitis 20:56, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Fine, but why is the disambiguation nescessary when all articles in it are about something directly related to Mactan (the island). Besides, major islands in the Philippines do not use the word "island" in their names unless there is an associated city, town or province (i.e. Luzon, Mindanao, Boracay, Corregidor, Cebu (island), Samar (island))--23prootie 07:49, 26 May 2007 (UTC) 23prootie 07:44, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

23prootie is right regarding Mactan: see WP:MOSDAB#Examples of individual entries that should not be created—all other uses are named after the island, and the dab page is not necessary. That is not the case with Panay though. Duja 14:08, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The original name of Mactan island.

[edit]

Opon was the original name of Mactan Island. The Americans coined the name Mactan when they opened the airbase sometime in the 60s. So it is wrong to say the "battle of Mactan" when you refer to the skirmish between the natives of Opon and Ferdinand Magellan's men in 1521 where he was killed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.153.183.166 (talk) 17:37, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
