Beef Tribunal
[edit]Given the recent beef scandal, this needs it's own page. The report has been put online, and the Larry Goodman page contains some detail.
Untitled
[edit]Surely this article should mention the Arms for Iraq enquiry which seemed to drag on for even longer than most. Mention could also be made of the fact that the Government received the report several months - I think it was six - before the public, and the opposition received it six weeks before.
- The delay before publication is so that interested parties, i.e., perhaps the party(s) criticised in the report, may dispute the findings and make their case for the report to be amended. Usually this is only allowed due to the report containing claimed errors of fact, omissions, or unfairness.
- .... parties criticised in the report have the right to expect the criticism to be fair and factually accurate.
Other Boards of Inquiry
[edit]I surfed in tracing inquiries into cause(s) of aircraft crashes.
Similarly, official inquires both civil and military are often convened into disasters causing major loss of human life.
Stunningly enough, these inquiries occur worldwide, not just in Ireland. Either this article is misnamed, or you need to broaden its scope.

- The 1921 Act allows for specific Tribunals in the UK and Ireland that are quite different from other official inquiries around the world. The article should really be titled "Tribunals of Inquiry" and not "Public inquiry".Red Hurley (talk) 08:37, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
leveson inquiry
[edit]This page is dreadfully out of date in respect to the leveson inquiry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.151.117.73 (talk) 23:22, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
The dates given for the announcement and commencement appaer to be incorrect. Here in his opening remarks Brian Leveson says the inquiry was announced by Cameron in 13th July http://www.levesoninquiry.org.uk/about/opening-remarks/ And here Chennel Four announced the beginning of the inquiry on the 14th November: http://www.channel4.com/news/leveson-inquiry-begins-into-press-ethics There have also been numerous briefing sessions and seminars between July and November. http://www.levesoninquiry.org.uk/news-and-events/ I'm going to change the table to reflect this, if anyone can show evidence otherwise let me know. Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse
[edit]In the UK, isn't the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse a public inquiry? SethWhales talk 19:20, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Done The IICSA has been added to the table in the newly branched-off article Public inquiries in the United Kingdom. SpookiePuppy (talk) 01:33, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Removal of section: "List of some public inquiries in the UK"
[edit]On 22 July 2022, a large section of this article, some 17,397 bytes, was removed from this article along with the subheading "List of some public inquiries in the UK", references and notes. The text was removed by User:DeFacto who gave the following reasons in the edit summary: "per WP:UNDUE in this general and global context article, and unsourced as a notable list anyway." The deleted section included a lengthy list of inquiries within the UK. A quick count of the editing history suggests that well over 30 different editors have contributed to the material. Another concern is that this list may contain the sole or minimal mention of certain inquiries on the entirety of the English Wikipedia, so removing the list outright, could serve to disappear or reduce any encyclopaedic reference to these inquiries. So rather than reverting the edit, I have taken the opportunity to branch off the material that related to the United Kingdom into its own dedicated article Public inquiries in the United Kingdom where the global context should no longer be a concern. The issue of the list being "unsourced as a notable list" will have to be dealt with separately as we try to tighten up the referencing. SpookiePuppy (talk) 20:00, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
