Questions[edit]

Answers[edit]

  • aerial photo shows two tracks, which might not be two mainline tracks of a double track line.
  • aerial photo shows no overhead wires, so train probably diesel powered, which is consistant with reported fire (from diesel fuel?)
  • train reported to have concertinaed (aka telescoped). Telescoping less likely with strong couplings.
  • reports of "light" signals would increase likelyhood of track circuits, a device particular good at reducing likely of collisions.
  • burst into flames imples diesel trains with flammable diesel fuel.

Acccident Report[edit]

Observations[edit]

  • ATC - mentioned in report
  • "A console that identifies trains and their locations to control tower staff was also not functional."[1] seems to say that track circuits and/or a signal box indicator diagram weren't working.
