Sir Richard Acland, 15th BaronetRichard Acland —. No need for disambiguation; this is not Debrett's. Per WP:NCNT, Baronets should normally be at their plain names, because they are usually so called; this moderately prominent 1940's politician is certainly so called. If Anthony Eden is not placed under the title he isn't known by, why Richard Acland? Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:00, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

resignation from Parliament

[edit]

Acland was very unlucky. When he left the Labour party, he resigned his seat so he could fight the resulting by-election as an independent. He might very well have won, but the by-election never took place as a general election was announced before it could be arranged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 144.173.223.49 (talk) 12:58, 6 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So why couldn't he have run as an Independent in the General Election? (Lobsterthermidor (talk) 13:24, 15 April 2015 (UTC))[reply]
