Sequenced SARS-CoV-2[edit]
Apparently Fudan University was the first to sequence the SARS-CoV-2 virus (which causes COVID-19) and publish it. I think the original source of these stories was China Morning Post, although I haven't looked there yet.
I got it from a book by Debora MacKenzie, a reporter at New Scientist:
COVID-19: The Pandemic that Never Should Have Happened, and How to Stop the Next One (2020)
by Debora MacKenzie
Doctors in Wuhan sent the public health lab at Fudan University in Shanghai a sample of the virus from a 41-year old man who had been hospitalized with pneumonia on December 26th...
The Shanghai lab had it sequenced by January 5th. Unknown to them, the China CDC already had a sequence, but they had not made it public....
The Shanghai lab posted the sequence on a public database, the first sequence published for the virus...
Also a good story in The Hindu, apparently from China Morning Post:
Shanghai lab that first sequenced coronavirus genome shut down

The Hindu
FEBRUARY 29, 2020
A Shanghai-based lab — Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center & School of Public Health — at Fudan University which was the first to sequence the whole genome of the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and publicly share the data on January 11 was shut down on January 12 for “rectification”.
