Commentary

[edit]

Did Laura Black work at ESL? It is implied but not obvious... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.120.226.34 (talk) 22:32, 2 February 2007 (UTC).  Done Fully rewritten to clear any ambiguities. -- Kschang77 16:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fully re-written, comments welcome. --Kschang77 14:18, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revised to take out "editorializations" and most tense problems that I noticed. Need an editor. :D --Kschang77 16:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revised with sections and further minor edits and further details and citations. --Kschang77 19:53, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Hostage negotiators eventually convinced Farley to surrender in exchange for a Togo's #26 sandwich and a Diet Pepsi." -- Can't seem to find a reference to this anywhere on google -- I cite tagged it, as I have no reason to believe the user who added it is a vandal. Hopefully one can be dug up, otherwise, it needs to be removed. -Etafly 17:32, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to find a confirmation of my previous addition regarding Farley's surrender. The article is in a protected database archive and cannot be hotlinked to, but here's a portion of the article from the San Jose Mercury news dated 2-17-88:

7 DIE IN GUNMAN'S RAMPAGE - 5 INJURED IN SUNNYVALE SIEGE

SAN JOSE MAN SURRENDERS San Jose Mercury News (CA) February 17, 1988 Author: Mike Cassidy Mercury News Staff Writer Estimated printed pages: 5

A heavily armed former employee of a Sunnyvale defense contractor burst into the firm's offices Tuesday and went on a shooting rampage that left seven dead and five injured, including a woman who had spurned his advances, police said. Five hours after Richard Wade Farley of San Jose began what apparently was the worst mass murder in Santa Clara County history, police said, he told officers they could arrest him.

"He surrendered for a No. 26 from Togo's and a Diet Pepsi," chief hostage negotiator Ruben Grijalva said.

This detail is also prominently featured in the television movie about the case. Sharxfan 21:00, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

San Quentin reference

[edit]

I reviewed the article and the external "citation" link and found that it had no relevant information pertaining to this article. The "citation" link I removed is: [Cite news| title=SAN QUENTIN Battle brewing over Death Row|work=San Francisco Chronicle|url=http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/10/27/BAGL39GQPF1.DTL&hw=Richard+Farley+ESL&sn=005&sc=471%7C accessdate=May 4, 2007 | first=Peter | last=Fimrite]. It mainly only discusses the prison upgrades and the information about Farley isn't relevant or included in the article.

I also removed the "promoid" attached the to the external link to time magazine, people shouldn't be adding affiliate links to make money from it. Who (talk) 08:25, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Should the shooting be a separate article?

[edit]

From what I've seen here mass murderers generally have their own separate wiki page, or are on a subsection of the wiki page of their crimes. SirInfinity0000 (talk) 18:33, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
