Why? If there's a more COMMON ENGLISH name, just use it. — LlywelynII 09:34, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Origin

[edit]

Well, this is a mess. The use of "Tang" for "Han", previous state of this article, China Daily article, and the Italian article all suggest/state that the tangzhuang well preceded the APEC summit and was selected out of the available options. However, Zhao's scholarly treatment goes into great detail and, though the important bits are obscure by Google's omissions, suggests that it was essentially invented whole-cloth for the summit because of the historical/cultural baggage associated with the other options like Qing-era clothing or the Mao suit.

I guess the best course for now is to rebuild the article around what can be seen of Zhao's treatment, Presumably there are still-more detailed and comprehensive Chinese sources, though, that could clear up the existence or differences between the tangzhuang and whatever preceded it? — LlywelynII 06:24, 6 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sources for article expansion

  • Ding, Xijiang; et al. (2002), 《新唐装》 [Xīntángzhuāng, The New Tangzhuang], Shanghai: Shanghai Scientific & Technical Publishers {{citation}}: Unknown parameter |authormask= ignored (|author-mask= suggested) (help). (in Chinese)

was apparently written by one/some of the original designers and presumably an excellent source for improving the article and resolving the issues above. — LlywelynII 16:51, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
