Conservatives have been repeating the claim alternatively that "Congress" promised Reagan 3-1 spending cuts, or that "the Democrats" promised Reagan 3-1 spending cuts in exchange for the 1982 Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act. I've seen no persuasive citation for either proposition. The obvious importance in this context relates to the current debt ceiling debate. To sustain this statement on this page, more information is needed.

1) Who promised the cuts? 2) What was the specific wording of the agreement? 3) Who are the percipient witnesses to this agreement? 4) Is there any contemporaneous documentation of this agreement? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.251.145.68 (talk) 22:00, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm not registered but I found some sources on this issue you might want to check: http://news.yahoo.com/reagan-handled-deficit-politics-uncommon-leadership-155200872.html or: http://www.moneynews.com/StreetTalk/Meese-Obama-Reagan-taxes/2011/07/26/id/404840. I searched Time Magazine but couldn't find anything there. Thanks. 123.225.124.28 (talk) 10:30, 20 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1) The links provide by un-registered user at 10:30, 20 August 2011 do not provide any information at all regarding the sudden GOP claim of an alleged agreement between 1982 Congress and Reagan.

2) 1982 Congress: Republicans Controlled the Senate & Dems Controlled the House.

3) Do the 2011 GOP want us to believe that the Republican Senate gave that promise to Reagan?

Here's what's clear, the 2011 GOP do actually like the Reagan Admin which is proven by their constant re-invention of history including unfounded agreements between Congress & Reagan. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keepemhonest2 (talkcontribs) 16:47, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
