"The first free-standing, purpose-built theatre in the modern world"?[edit]
The above statement seems not to be true. The Theatre in Shoreditch, London, was built in 1576, hence more than a decade earlier. The Newington Butts playhouse was built a couple of years later and the Curtain in 1577.
