Toronto/Tel Aviv Contreversy

[edit]

Removed a statement 'The response to the protests were mixed with some accusing them of sniffling debate or alignment themselves with militant Islam and drawing support from others.' as the reference provided states none of these things. Being that the statement is also inarticulate, one would have to assume that this is conjecture on the part of the editor.

[edit]

Due to the fact that I have a vested interested in the links section (i.e. the "TheGATE.ca" link is to my website) I feel someone else should deal with this down the road, but I've noticed a number of IPs logging in and adding links to useless sites or else reordering the list of links for no good reason.

In my opinion there are lots of links that would be helpful for this article, but I'm thinking there are a lot popping up right now just to take advantage of the next festival. Please watch for this if you can folks. --The GATEKeeper 02:53, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of TIFF awarded films

[edit]

Please, help create a complete list of TIFF awarded films (or TIFF awards in general). Hoverfish 07:11, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Originally I had got the idea that there was some bias in WikiProject Films and only Academy and Golden Globe were favored. Within other, I've been trying to update several lists and general articles where film awards are mentioned, to include all important festivals. This would definitely raise the quality and user-friendliness of these general and often visited articles and lists. The only problem is that when one clicks, for example, on Palm d'Or awarded film articles, few of the awarded films are above class stub and many are red links, so the user will probably think that all these awards are not really important or interesting and the effect will be to strengthen further the importance of the Academy and Golden Globe. I think in each award a clear point about its evaluation criteria should be centrally made and the articles on films that won each year's award should reflect this. Some priority should be given to develop awarded films into at least class Start articles. Hoverfish 13:41, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excessive Lead section

[edit]

The Lead section was far too long for an article of this kind, so I have relocated content and created new sub-sections.--Soulparadox (talk) 10:51, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Owner of TIFF

[edit]

The ownership of TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) has no been revealed on this page. Who is the owner and/or the organization responsible for TIFF? Is TIFF an agency of the Ontario Government? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.67.60.181 (talk) 18:39, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's not an agency of the Ontario government. It's a charity, incorporated without share capital under the laws of Ontario under the corporate name "Toronto International Film Festival, Inc." [1] You can get further information by doing an Ontario corporation name search or Government of Canada charities listings search (registration number 119304541RR0001). Some further information including links to annual reports, and a list of the board of directors, is at www.tiff.net/about/. Mathew5000 (talk) 19:39, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mathew5000: Good find. Perhaps you can incorporate those information into the article? OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:26, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how to update this but the logo looks like it's out of date, link to new logo below: https://storage.googleapis.com/ff-storage-p01/festivals/logos/000/003/069/large/TIFF_logo_CMYK.jpg?1491418405

Indigenous Contributions

[edit]

There is no mention of Indigenous filmmakers at the festival. In the context of this festival's location in Canada, a colonial state on Indigenous land, this is a large gap in knowledge of the types of films this festival screens. It assumes the imagined community of Canada as homogenous, whereas this is a contested point in the country. Furthermore, Indigenous filmmakers' in Canada are making and have made notable achievements in filmmaking that have been recognized at this festival. It would be nice to see this highlighted.SilverScreen'sSilverLining (talk) 20:16, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We would need to see reliable sourcing covering that as a topic before we could add any meaningful content about it here. Other than indigenous filmmakers having films in the festival, which would be listed in the article about the specific year their films screened, the only other obviously sourceable thing I can think of is the Alanis Obomsawin retrospective from 2021, which again is covered in the 2021 article — but otherwise, I don't know of any sources that collectively cover the overall concept of indigenous filmmakers being present at TIFF. IF you've got such sources, feel free to show them, but I certainly don't know of any. Bearcat (talk) 15:51, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
