Mare Island refit

[edit]

My Dad, Cmdr. F.J. Moran, Jr. USN, worked as the managing engineering officer at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard from 1975-1978 (when he retired), and the Patrick Henry was one of the projects he oversaw. She was there for overhaul and refueling during that time. But as I was only a kid, I hardly know any of the details. Got to tour the boat, though; one of the highlights of my childhood. Seriously. Conflicting info

[edit]

Under 1. History, 1.1 Commissioned, second paragraph, last sentence, it says "Patrick Henry was the first ballistic missile submarine to enter Holy Loch, and the first to go alongside the submarine tender USS Proteus for replenishment and routine repair." According to the USS Proteus Wiki, 1. Service History, 1.2 1960–1992, first paragraph, first sentence, it says "Proteus recommissioned 8 July 1960, and after shakedown at Guantanamo Bay, she accomplished her first SSBN refit 20 January–21 February at New London."

Clearly, both of these can't be true.

I suggest that the Patrick Henry sentence end at the comma, and the remaining text be removed. TCav (talk) 19:39, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
