Did you know nomination

[edit]
The following is an archived discussion of the DYK nomination of the article below. Please do not modify this page. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as this nomination's talk page, the article's talk page or Wikipedia talk:Did you know), unless there is consensus to re-open the discussion at this page. No further edits should be made to this page.

The result was: rejected by reviewer, closed by AirshipJungleman29 talk 18:52, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Created by Onceinawhile (talk). Self-nominated at 09:13, 3 January 2024 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Weaponization of antisemitism; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • Comment: I don't think this article is ready for DYK as the page history indicates it is entirely unstable. Further, the talk page shows that it is heavily contested and discussion is ongoing. I would recommend withdrawing at this time and submitting later after things have cooled down. Of course, that might not be possible due to the time constraints, so consider bringing it up to GA standards and then submitting it, as that process will tend to weed out any outstanding issues. I won't personally reject this nomination, as I think the process for doing so will benefit from multi-editorial consilience towards that conclusion, instead of one editor making that determination. Viriditas (talk) 19:30, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I will also offer my rationale:
  • Article title is disputed: A move and rename proposal was initiated at on 31 January. Discussion is ongoing.
  • Disputed content: Russia-Belarus content is disputed on talk as of 31 January. Discussion is ongoing; Lead section disputed as of 14 January. Discussion ongoing as of 28 January with an outstanding request for sources; Ostrovsky's description disputed as of 8 January. Discussion appears to have concluded.
  • Stability: Since the article was nominated on 3 January there has been no semblance of stability. There have been around ~130 intervening edits, with edit warring and reverts occurring daily throughout that time. In the last 48 hours, there have been at least four reverts (likely many more, but just noting the explicit reverts), and the placement of at least one inline maintenance tag for synthesis.
Based on the above, I move to reject the nomination per WP:DYKCOMPLETE ("The article should not be subject to unresolved edit-warring or the presence of stub or dispute tags"). Viriditas (talk) 00:25, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The reasoning is solid, so I've gone ahead and rejected the nomination. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 18:53, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I removed Working definition of antisemitism and New antisemitism from the See also section because they’re linked in the article body, and WP:SEEALSO says that the section should not repeat links in the body.

I also removed Islamophobia, which seems too broad a topic and not obviously related to this article.

@NightHeron restored all three, saying that they don’t see why the links ought to be removed. I’m initiating this discussion to get input on these links. Is there a special reason why the already-linked articles should be repeated in the section? And should Islamophobia go in the section? ꧁Zanahary00:40, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WP:SEEALSO says that generally links in the article are not included in See-also sections, but that's not a rigid rule. Concerning "Islamophobia", it's true that the word is not mentioned in the article. (If it had been mentioned, it likely would have been linked, and you wcould have used that as a reason to remove it from See-also.) However, a type of Islamophobia is mentioned in the article, namely, the presumption [by Zionist groups] that all Muslims are antisemitic. NightHeron (talk) 01:35, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

it's true that the word [Islamophobia] is not mentioned in the article.

I didn’t say that.

(If it had been mentioned, it likely would have been linked, and you would have used that as a reason to remove it from See-also.)

Am I misreading you, or are you suggesting I’m acting in bad faith in order to suppress something pertinent from the See also section? ꧁Zanahary04:04, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I didn't at all mean that you were acting in bad faith. I just meant that guidelines, if interpreted rigidly, sometimes even contradict one another (such as the notion that See-alsos must be both closely related to the article and never linked to within the article). Sorry if I was unclear. I changed "would" (which is not the right word) to "could", since of course I don't know what you would do. NightHeron (talk) 09:40, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. I don’t see the contradiction, since the guidelines don’t say to put links already present in-body in the see also (in my reading). But that aside, why do you think Islamophobia should be linked in see also? To me it seems overly broad and not obviously more appropriate than, say, the similarly tangential Anti-Arab racism or the similarly broad Bad faith. Zanahary 23:35, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Because the "presumption that all Muslims are antisemitic" is clearly a form of Islamophobia. The article mentions this as a form that the weaponization takes, according to Plitnick and Aziz. NightHeron (talk) 23:52, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I originally added Working definition of antisemitism to the See also section because I thought it was related, but didn't realize it was already linked in the article. I am OK with removing the Working definition of antisemitism link from the See also to better comply with the Wikipedia suggested guidelines 👍. Wafflefrites (talk) 02:51, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, do you have any objection to also removing New antisemitism? Because that is also linked already. ꧁Zanahary04:05, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that’s fine. Makes sense to remove. Wafflefrites (talk) 05:27, 13 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
