Misleading mention of VPN as a privacy protection

Another way to hide personally identifiable information is by using a virtual private network. A VPN encrypts online traffic and masks the original IP address lowering the chance of user identification.

This is misleading. VPN services only encrypt between the client and the VPN server, which then in turn gets the data in unencrypted form, and in the unencrypted form sends it to the destination server, which is well explained on their Wikipedia page. The only correct way to encrypt data on the Web is the usage of TLS, both as HTTPS and encrypted DNS. GJedenastka (talk) 19:43, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
