Yaqub Mammadov → Yakub Mamedov per WP:COMMONNAME & maybe WP:USEENGLISH
-- Takabeg (talk) 11:22, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- Your arguments are ungrounded, thats the Russian translation, this is not Russian wiki. Neftchi (talk) 13:40, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
This is absolutely unnecessary. Follow the example of Serzh Sargsyan, there are tons of references that use Serzh Sarkisian but the Wiki article uses the first version. Atabəy (talk) 14:12, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- About you groundless and irrelevant claim, see Talk:Serzh Sargsyan#Name. Takabeg (talk) 02:42, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
Pointless. Azeri names are generally transliterated into English through their Azeri spelling, not Russian. Let alone those of living people. Parishan (talk) 16:32, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- It's very clear that Yaqub Mammadov is not common name of him in English sources. Takabeg (talk) 02:36, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose It's also pretty clear, that with a total of just 53 hits on the whole of the internet, there is no common English name. In that case, the instructions at Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) come into play. This states "It can happen that an otherwise notable topic has not yet received much attention in the English-speaking world, so that there are too few English sources to constitute an established usage. Very low Google counts can but need not be indicative of this. If this happens, follow the conventions of the language in which this entity is most often talked about (German for German politicians, Turkish for Turkish rivers, Portuguese for Brazilian towns etc.)." As far as the Russian or Azeri transliteration goes, I can see no more reason to use a Russian version than a Ukrainian or Georgian version of his name. He's an Azerbaijani politician, so we use the Azeri version. Skinsmoke (talk) 04:25, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
@ Skinmoke: As long as I understand, you confuse google books research with google research. Takabeg (talk) 04:31, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
