Cheer Sport Great White Sharks[edit]
Cheer Sport Great White Sharks is an all-girl international level 5 all-star cheerleading team from Cambridge, Ontario. The Great Whites are the highest-level team from a branch of Cheer Sport Sharks cheerleading gyms that operate throughout Cambridge, Ancastor, and Ottawa. The team is the repeating national champion in the all-girl level 5 category and won the ICU Cheerleading Worlds first place title held in Orlando, Florida for 2014 and 2015.
Team[edit]
Gym co-owner and founder, Alison Moffatt, coaches the Great Whites. Moffatt leads the team with a 7-time World Champion coaching background along side gym co-owner Alana Potter.[1] The team consists of 25 women ranging from the ages of 14 and up which many have been cheering for over 10 years. Many Great White members also have competed with Team Canada in the Worlds Competition.
Competitions[edit]
In Canada, the Great Whites have maintained a leading position in the Cheer Evolution National Championships for the past decade. In 2015, the team took home another first place trophy in the May competition[2] with a 21 point score lead over second place.
In 2014, the Great Whites became the first Canadian team to win national champions at the American National Cheerleading Association All-Star National Championships. In 2015, the team brought home another winning title for the NCA Championships[3] held in Dallas, Texas.
Internationally, the Great Whites have won back-to-back first place titles at the World Cheerleading Championships in 2014 and 2015[4]. The Worlds competition is held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida by the USASF.
Publicity[edit]
The team has been covered multiple times by regional newspapers such as The Cambridge Times[5] and The Kitchener Record. National newspaper Globe and Mail[6] and television networks including CTV News[7] have also featured the team in reports following major competitions.
On October 30th, 2015, Corus Entertainment’s ABC Spark and Good Human Productions announced they would start producing a new docu-reality series[8] following the Great White Sharks throughout their season leading up to the 2016 Worlds Competition. The show is expected to premier July 2016 on ABC Spark in Canada and ABC Family in the U.S.
