Audible Magic is a company that provides automated content recognition solutions that recognizes music, movies, TV shows and commercials by inspecting the audio and video media. The company was co-founded by it's current CEO Vance Ikezoye and CTO Jim Schrempp. It offers its SmartID and CopySense platforms, which are based on the company's patented digital fingerprint technology. These platforms are used for Social TV, Interactive Advertising, Broadcast Monitoring, and Copyright Detection.

History

The company initially was founds to develop a way to enable cell phone owners to easily purchase a CD of music playing on the radio. In October 2000, Audible Magic acquired Muscle Fish, a company that had patented an audio similarity technology. Shortly thereafter, the company released Clango, its first version of its content identification technology. In 2001, Audible Magic released Replicheck, a windows-based software tool for CD replicators to check masters for copyright violations. In 2004, Audible magic released its CopySense Network Appliance that implemented a way to detect and block P2P traffic of copyrighted works. In 2005, YouTube was the first user-generated content (UGC) site to use Audible Magic for detection of copyrighted music, moves, and TV shows. In 2010, the company launched its SDK for iOS and Android platforms to support 2nd screen applications. In 2012, the company launched Audini, the first ever browser-based content ID capability.

  • Smart ID - an SDK tuned for 2nd Screen applications that run on iOS and Android devices. SmartID allows for both remote and local (on-device) matching capabilities.
  • Live TViD - a service that leverages the Smart ID SDK to detect in real-time what a user is watching on live TV (or time-shifted). The company monitors over 100 US & International networks.
  • SmartSync - a service that leverage the SmartID SDK to implement frame-accurate synchornization of an application to other media such as movies or TV shows
