[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 19:40, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I didn't intend for this to be considered as advertising. I will not do any more than post a link like what was done in question. Not to spam any page. If what I did is considered wrong, then all other links to service providers would need to be removed system wide.

Decline reason:

You have not addressed your violation of WP:COI. You will not be unblocked to do what you suggest. Yamla (talk) 20:46, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

1. I don't recieve any compensation for doing edits other than from my employment by TCW. It is not a specific task of my position.

2. I understand on the surface how someone not familiar with the community page in question and the people who serve them may consider this spamming or advertising promotion. I didn't intend for this to be considered as advertising. I will not do any more than post a link like what was done in question and not to spam any page. If what I did is considered wrong, then all other links to service providers would need to be removed system wide. I will ask our marketing department about adding the communities we serve to the home page so that it is easily checked.

3. I intend to contribute to pages which apply to the specific areas we serve and expertise as a technician and business networking veteran. Also to contribute any useful information I can to

4. Requesting change of username, please use DougT-KS

This is my real first name and last initial and a reference to the state I call home. DT-TCW (talk) 16:59, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

As noted below, employment in any capacity is considered "paid editing", it does not require specific payment for edits(otherwise every paid editor would deny being specifically paid to edit). If you thought you disclosed, it didn't work. You will need to follow the instructions at WP:PAID. Please read conflict of interest; you won't be unblocked to, in the short term, make edits related to your conflict of interest(like your company or field). If that is your only goal here, this is the end of the road. If you want to make edits about topics for which you have no conflict of interest, please tell what those might be. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:18, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear, whether or not you are paid specifically to edit Wikipedia as part of your job doesn't matter. Your employment is, by itself, enough to make you a paid editor if you submit any content related to your employer. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 17:25, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I believed I had disclosed this fact. Not trying to be argumentative, just trying to understand.
Wikipedia is edited by volunteer contributors. The conflict-of-interest Wikipedia guideline is a "generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow". This guideline strongly discourages COI editing and advises those with a financial conflict of interest, including paid editors, to refrain from direct article editing. The paid-contribution-disclosure policy, which has legal ramifications, requires that editors disclose their "employer, client, and affiliation" with respect to any contribution for which they are paid, including talk-page contributions. I noticed this edit, but I couldn't find a list of communities that TCW provides service on their website. I did more searching and it appears that tcwfiber.net might actually provide service to Durham. I don't get it, why doesn't a rural internet provider list the communities they provide service on one of their webpages? • SbmeirowTalk22:05, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will ask our marketing department about adding the communities we serve to the home page so that it is easily verified.
Thank you for mentioning it!
I have updated my unblock request with all the info I can provide, as well as a new username that is available. DT-TCW (talk) 17:05, 27 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, after reading your profile, I can identify with many of the things you mention from your past.
I grew up in Kansas 4-H (Dickinson County) with electrical as one of many projects in the 70's-80's. I was a "Commodore Kid". Went on to become network administrator for Bushnell Sports Optics in Overland Park. Developed multiple corporate web applications utilizing ColdFusion (I was privileged to be a beta tester for Ben Forta of Allaire with their first release).
After many years in the IT field, I retured to my rural roots in central Kansas to be the Business Solutions Consultant for a rural telco based out of Council Grove, KS. TCT (Tri County Telephone) which now operates in 9 counties and is building fiber into rural communities that are underserved under our TCW (Formerly TC-Wireless, when we did LTE in some communities).
This is more info that you likely would be interested in, but wanted to comment on the similar backgrounds (you were a trailblazer a few years ahead of me), and give context to my request to be unblocked and information allowed on the Durham, KS page edit.
