Xiaomi M365 or Mi Electric Scooter is a consumer e-scooter by the Chinese electronics company Xiaomi. Released in December 2016, it debuted three months before the dockless rental scooter operator Bird commenced service.[1] The M365 is the model used for the original Bird rental scooters.[2]

In terms of private ownership, the model is readily available in Europe, where it is said to have "democratized" the motorized kick scooter, due to its competitive price (often €350-€400), and it being one of the easiest scooters to operate.[3][4]

Mechanical design

The electric motor is located in the front wheel making the M365 front wheel drive, while the battery and motor controller are located in the compartment under the deck. The brake lever triggers two braking systems, firstly regenerative braking (KERS) by the motor in the front wheel, followed by mechanical disk braking, located in the rear wheel, which ensures a short stopping distance.

It has a folding mechanism, which can for example be used in public transport.[5]

Electronics

Red light means charging and green light means fully charged or disconnected.

Line cable connects between controller and dashboard. The controller plays a key role in the operation and management of the electric scooter and provides the ability to customize the use of the scooter according to the needs of the user. The controller adjusts the power that is transmitted to the scooter's motor. This allows you to accelerate and manage speed. The controller’s main function is to act as the brain and central nervous system of the electric scooter.[6][7] Electric scooter controller voltage is DC 36V, electric scooter controller rated power is 350W.

Battery is connected to the charge port, controller and rear light.

Issues

The scooter used to be vulnerable to remote hacking, which included triggering the brake or speeding it up.[8][9]

Some units in select markets has been recalled due to a screw in the folding mechanism that became loose; this could cause the stem to break off while in use.[10][11]

M365 Pro and other Xiaomi models

The successor, called the M365 Pro, has "refined" the original M365 by including a colour graphical display, an increased range of 45 km (28 miles), as well as more power from the electric motor, at 300W (peak 600W). The length and width of the deck has also been increased, improving comfort. Safety improvements have also been made, including a larger disk for the rear brake.[12]

  • Xiaomi M365: Compact and lightweight design, for users who need a scooter to transport and manoeuvre. With a 500W motor and 5100 mAh battery, it offers a similar range of up to 30 km
  • Xiaomi Pro 2: Option for those who need more autonomy, with its 12400 mAh battery and a capacity of up to 45 km. 12400 mAh battery and 600W motor.
  • Xiaomi 4 Pro: One of the best in range and power, with its 700W motor, a 12400 mAh battery and a range of up to 55 km, for long urban commutes.
  • Xiaomi 4 Ultra: The most powerful Xiaomi scooter, in power and autonomy, with a 940W motor and a high-capacity 12000 mAh battery, with a range of 70 km on a single charge.
