Budapest calling! Another entry for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest has been selected. It’s the winner of A Dal 2019: Joci Pápai!
We have a winner! And it’s a returning act! Joci Pápai will be returning to the Eurovision stage, just two years after his first participation in Kyiv, where he placed 8th. A Dal 2019 finally came to an end electing the Hungarian representative to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Israel. This is how it went.
Eight acts were competing tonight:
- Gergő Szekér – Madár, repülj!
- Bogi Nagy – Holnap
- Joci Pápai – Az én apám
- Fatal Error – Kulcs
- Gergő Oláh – Hozzád bújnék
- Acoustic Planet – Nyári zápor
- The Middletonz – Roses
- Vavra Bence – Szótlanság
First round
After eight outstanding performances, the four judges elected the four acts to advance to the second round by giving 4, 6, 8 and 10 points to their four favourite songs. The four most votes acts advanced to the second round:
- Joci Pápai – Az én apám with 26 points
- Acoustic Planet – Nyári zápor with 22 points
- Bence Vavra – Szótlanság with 20 points
- Bogi Nagy – Holnap with 16 points
Second round
Finally, another round of voting was opened. This time the public was 100% responsible for the winner. At the end of the show, hosts Freddie (Hungary 2016) and Bogi Dallos announced Joci Pápai winner of A Dal 2019 and will represent Hungary in Tel Aviv with the song Az én apám!
Hungary will perform in the first half of the first semi final on 14 May.
