Emmys 2015: HBO wins Best Drama and Best Comedy

For the first time since 2002, one network won both Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards. HBO broke the 13-year streak on Sunday, when Game of Thrones and Veep topped the drama and comedy categories, respectively.

NBC was the last network to achieve such a feat, honored for the success of comedy winner Friends and drama winner The West Wing. HBO had some strong competition at the 67th annual ceremony, facing off against offerings from ABC, Netflix, and AMC, among others.

Veep nabbed its first Outstanding Comedy Series award at the 2015 Emmys, beating out Louie (FX), Modern Family (ABC), Parks and Recreation (NBC), Silicon Valley (HBO), Transparent (Amazon), and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Netflix). Game of Thrones also took home top honors for the first time, edging out Better Call Saul (AMC), Downton Abbey (PBS), Homeland (Showtime), House of Cards (Netflix), Mad Men (AMC), and Orange Is the New Black (Netflix).

HBO earned additional gold at Sunday’s ceremony for the critically acclaimed miniseries Olive Kitteridge. The four-part series nabbed the statuette for Outstanding Limited Series, also taking home Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special, Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for Richard Jenkins, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for Frances McDormand, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for Bill Murray.
