TV 2023 Emmy Awards: See the complete winners list TV's biggest night finally happened after the ceremony was set to air last September before being postponed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. By Sydney Bucksbaum Sydney Bucksbaum Sydney Bucksbaum is a writer at Entertainment Weekly covering all things pop culture – but TV is her one true love. She currently lives in Los Angeles but grew up in Chicago so please don't make fun of her accent when it slips out. EW's editorial guidelines Updated on January 16, 2024 11:45AM EST Let's just get it out of the way now... even before all the winners were announced, the 75th Annual Emmy Awards were already a very strange affair. While the ceremony hosted by Anthony Anderson took place on Jan. 15, 2024, it was actually the 2023 Emmys since the awards show was postponed for months due to the writers' and actors' strikes. That means the eligibility window closed a long time ago — to be considered for this year's awards, a television show, limited series, or made-for-TV film must have been released between June 1, 2022, and May 31, 2023. That time frame included previous Emmy winners like Succession and Ted Lasso, which both returned for their respective final seasons last year, as well as the first season of The Bear (season 2 will be eligible for the 2024 ceremony later this year), The Last of Us, Andor, and more. The awards were voted on by the National Active members of the Television Academy from Aug. 18 through Aug. 28, 2023. So who (finally) walked away with their trophies during the very delayed ceremony held at the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles? Succession successfully closed the deal on seven big wins for its swan song season, including Best Drama, acting nods for Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, and Matthew Macfadyen, Best Directing for a Drama Series for Mark Mylod, and Best Writing for a Drama Series for Jesse Armstrong. Meanwhile, The Bear cooked up six wins during its first year at the Emmys, as the show won Best Comedy, stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach got acting nods, and showrunner Christopher Storer won twice with Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Plus, Abbott Elementary's Quinta Brunson schooled voters with her Lead Actress in a Comedy Series win, Jennifer Coolidge checked out of The White Lotus with her Supporting Actress in a Drama Series win, and Beef was well done with five wins in the limited series categories, including Best Actor and Actress honors for Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. And can you feel the EGOT love tonight? The 2023 Emmys also made history as Elton John became the 19th person ever to EGOT (he previously won a Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) with his win for Best Variety Special (Live) for his Disney+ variety show Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium.
