Rejoins Pittsburgh's practice squad
The Steelers re-signed Jenkins to the practice squad Tuesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Jenkins spent time with Pittsburgh during the preseason, and he'll now rejoin the team as an emergency depth option. The 2023 UDFA out of LSU is still searching for a chance to make his regular-season debut.
Let go by Steelers
The Steelers waived Jenkins on Tuesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports. Jenkins missed all of 2023 after he reached an injury settlement with the Jaguars in September due to an undisclosed injury. He signed with the Steelers in June to compete for a depth spot at wide receiver. Jenkins caught four passes on five targets for 44 yards across three preseason games, but it wasn't enough for him to stick around on Pittsburgh's 53-man roster. He could be invited back to the Steelers' practice squad if he isn't claimed off waivers by another team.
Records two catches Friday
Jenkins secured both of his targets for 22 yards during Friday's 20-12 preseason loss to Houston. Jenkins was waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement by the Jaguars ahead of the 2023 season, and he didn't land with another team last year. The LSU product signed with the Steelers in June but faces an uphill battle to earn a spot on the team's active roster ahead of the 2024 campaign, even after Pittsburgh lost Diontae Johnson, Allen Robinson and Miles Boykin during the offseason. However, even if Jenkins is left off the 53-man roster, he could make a case for a role with the team's practice squad.
Lands in Pittsburgh
Jenkins signed with the Steelers on Monday. The wide receiver was waived from injured reserve with an injury settlement by the Jaguars before the 2023 season. He caught 27 passes for 404 yards and six touchdowns during his final season with LSU in 2022.
