The Spurs signed Bassey (knee) to a one-year, $2.2 million contract Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Bassey made just 19 appearances for the Spurs in 2023-24 before suffering a torn ACL. While he is expected to return in the first half of the 2024-25 campaign, Bassey will likely compete for depth minutes in San Antonio's frontcourt.

Latest Spurs News
Charles Bassey : Returning to San Antonio
The Spurs signed Bassey (knee) to a one-year, $2.2 million contract Tuesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Bassey made just 19 appearances for the Spurs in 2023-24 before suffering a torn ACL. While he is expected to return in the first half of the 2024-25 campaign, Bassey will likely compete for depth minutes in San Antonio's frontcourt.
Sandro Mamukelashvili : Returning to San Antonio
The Spurs signed Mamukelashvili to a one-year, $2.2 million contract Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Mamukelashvili made 46 appearances for San Antonio in 2023-24 and averaged 4.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 9.8 minutes. Mamukelashvili will likely compete for depth minutes in the frontcourt behind Victor Wembanyama and Zach Collins (shoulder).
Stephon Castle : Out for remainder of Summer League
Castle suffered a right wrist sprain during Saturday's win over Portland and is out for the remainder of Summer League, Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News reports. Castle injured his right wrist after a fall during Saturday's game against Portland, and he will remain sidelined for the remainder of Summer League as the Spurs play it safe with the fourth overall pick. Castle flashed the potential that made him a highly touted prospect in this year's draft during limited action in Summer League, putting up 22 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal Saturday against the Trail Blazers. Castle will likely serve as a key player for San Antonio off the bench to begin the 2024-25 campaign.
Stephon Castle : Looks sharp in win
Castle recorded 22 points (8-21 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 4-6 FT), five rebounds, four assists and one steal over 29 minutes in Saturday's 83-77 Summer League win over the Trail Blazers. Coming off a national championship with UConn, the 6-foot-6 guard finds himself with an exciting opportunity in San Antonio. Castle is likely to begin his career as a key reserve for the Spurs while learning from the likes of Chris Paul and Devin Vassell, though a starting spot may not be out of the question depending on how he fares during training camp.
Charles Bassey : Waived by San Antonio
The Spurs waived Bassey (knee) on Monday, Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News reports. Bassey's release was a necessity after the team acquired Harrison Barnes via trade and signed Chris Paul. However, the team could look to bring the 23-year-old back if he clears waivers. Bassey's 2023-24 season was cut short in December by a torn ACL, but he made 19 appearances prior and averaged 3.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 blocks across 10.8 minutes per game.
Victor Wembanyama : Absent in loss Monday
Wembanyama (ankle) missed France's 70-65 exhibition loss to Germany on Monday due to an illness, Jeff Garcia of KENS 5 San Antonio reports. Wembanyama was sidelined for France's loss as they prepared for the Paris Olympics. In two exhibitions thus far, the 2024 Rookie of the Year averaged 25.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 blocks across 19.5 minutes. His stellar play proves he's moved past the ankle injury that sidelined him for the Spurs' final regular-season game. Wembanyama could return as soon as Friday against Serbia; however, there is no rush as France does not begin play in the Olympic Games until July 27 versus Brazil.
Sandro Mamukelashvili : Becomes unrestricted free agent
San Antonio renounced its free-agent rights on Mamukelashvili on Monday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports. The Spurs initially extended a qualifying offer to Mamukelashvili to make him a restricted free agent, giving them the ability to match opposing offers. However, the Spurs renouncing their free agent rights gives him the opportunity to negotiate elsewhere as an unrestricted free agent.
David Duke : Becomes unrestricted free agent
The Spurs renounced their free agent rights on Duke (ankle) on Monday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports. The Spurs initially extended Duke a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent, but now he's free to negotiate elsewhere. Duke is currently tending to a minor undisclosed injury.
