The definition of descriptive resources to explore the jewelry corresponding to the reigns of Juan II and Enrique IV of Castile nobility has been only partially stated. Previous studies, while collecting an abundance and variety of these works of art, focus on individual descriptions about the elaborate aesthetic of particular pieces, the material value of some of them in the same camera, or its useful in shaping the image of its owner, among others. This paper proposes a number of typologies that includes and differentiates all the jewelry on record for these jobs, with new documentaries and literary references. For this purpose, iconographic elements, materials and techniques used for decorative designs, were analyzed, considering the symbolic character associated to some of them.

In the most exclusive areas, descriptions are careful to mention their ability to play, sing or dance, private inventories collected musical instruments, and chamber records list numerous organists, comperes, harpists and chamber singers . Meanwhile, in the public arena we find references to exchanges of musicians between the court of the king and his lords, Castilian knights who enjoy musical experiences on their travels (which would never dare to tell if they occurred in Castile), or to musicians found in noble Castilian society who were highly regarded in distant courts. As an essential element in the demonstration of a life of luxury, musicians were represented in the patterns of crockery and textiles, and dressed to match the furniture of chapels where they performed. They would have been dressed in outlandish costumes designed to highlight their foreign origin, and even required to teach slaves to sing, at the height of the culture and its growing to associate music with the notion of luxury.

Although it appears that both elements would have been inevitable in the decoration of major aristocratic homes and dressing rooms, little more is known apart from through biased contemporaneous references that seem to take for granted the sumptuousness with little regard for specific physical detail.
However, a clearer picture can be formed by the textile furnishings that were created for display, or the pieces of jewellery and metalwork that were designed to contain such items, which appear in wills, inventories, codicils and chamber records. In these documents are mentioned tools and cosmetics in precious arks, jewellery, crockery, cloths and tablecloths, which sometimes seem to form a whole. Their shapes and forms, materials and purchase prices are mentioned, and occasionally even parts of their production process, or the professionals responsible for their design and production.
In the interpretation and contextualisation of this information, it is possible to describe some of the formal characteristics of amber jewellery, flasks, ewers, fruit and sweet confectionary. There is almost no record of preserved relics of table pieces and dressing tables, or anything other of that aesthetic or functional nature.
Their importance apart from elaborate aesthetic and economic value, lies in their exclusive use. Many of the furnishings were essential objects of the outfit of a noble table, resulting in their being key elements in the protocol of noble ceremony and grandeur. Thus, the use of such items of luxury within a noble household, became the distinction of a Lord or Lady.
