I just made a 6 year old girl really mad at me in the mall and it was actually a heartbreaking experience

Because I was picking up more moisturiser, and this clearly really young girl and her mother came in to shop skin products, and her mother picked up a combined kit and was like “This is the one you want? Okay I guess” and I took a peak and gently butted in and told her mother I thought that was a really bad idea because she looked super young and those products had a bunch of actives

This little girl was glaring at me like I kicked her puppy while I chatted to her mother, who seemed really embarrassed she didn’t know that, asked some questions, and told me her daughter was 6, obsessed with skincare, said all the other girls at school had similar products, and always watched YouTube videos + Tiktoks about these things.

I told her pretty bluntly it’s a bad idea for young people to use most of these actives/products, gave her some keywords to search online so she’d have a better idea about what to look up and learn more, and suggested maybe they could work on instead building a routine with washing faces with water, a little dab of a very neutral moisturiser and some sunscreen every day (let’s be clear - this little girl does not need a skincare routine, but it’s a compromise without completely shitting on her and helps routine building in life anyway)

I told this kid she was really pretty and she didn’t need anything, and I’m sorry I ruined her fun but I didn’t want her to burn her face with something like retinol or salicylic acid. She was not impressed.

Please chat with the young people in your life about these things, get some rudimentary knowledge if they’re asking for products like this, and please be careful!

A lot of ingredients that children or young teenagers might pick up (due to frequent and heavy branding) that you should keep an eye out for are on this list under either actives, anti-ageing or brightening:

Hi everyone! If you haven't met Deema (@dima96yousef), allow me the pleasure of introducing you to her! She is a pharmacist, a university student, and a wonderful mother of one. Her child Yousef has esophageal varices (a disability in which the veins of the esophagus are enlarged), and needs urgent medical care that is currently unavailable in Gaza.

Between that, the danger in Gaza, and the fact that their home was destroyed, Deema and her family are looking to evacuate Gaza. With only €4,192 raised of the goal of €25,000, they're pretty far from their goal, but together we can change that! Please donate anything you can spare to her, even if that's just €5, and don't forget to boost her posts and follow her blog!

(Also, heads-up: donors can get the chance of winning a collector's edition of the Wrinkle in Time series!)

This is frustrating.

I love the comparison, but I hate how they are comparing.

They are acting like she is using optics to give herself an advantage. But the device she is wearing is just for comfort and essentially does the same thing as closing one eye and squinting the other.

The little thing over the left eye is basically like an eye patch.

And the thing over her right eye is a mechanical iris, like in a camera lens, but it is NOT a lens.

image

Different lighting environments are going to be brighter or darker and you may have to squint more or less to let in the same amount of light into your eye. Squinting allows the shooter to get the sharpest possible vision in order to shoot a bullseye the size of a 12-point Times New Roman period.

But if you have to squint for hours for practice and in competition, this can strain your face muscles and become uncomfortable. So this iris basically squints for you.

It's more like wearing comfortable shoes so your feet do not hurt than a lens magnifying the target and giving an advantage.

Both athletes have access to these items. One felt more comfortable without them. The other didn't feel like getting a muscle cramp from squinting all day.

Either would have shot the same if they had or had not used these devices.

Just a funny difference in gear preference.

I should also add, the Turkish dad is the only one using lenses.

sirfrogsworth

I'd just like to add that Kim Yeji may look like a cool cyborg badass, but she and the Turkish dad only won silver.

The gold medal winner in the women's air pistol finals was adorable and a bit overshadowed.

image

Oh Ye-jin, who is only 19, won gold and set an Olympic record with her final score.

Kim Yeji is her mentor and seems very supportive of her.

image

Also, Oh Ye-jin added a little heart to the barrel blocking thingie.

image

I mean, it's like she got lost at summer camp and just wandered into the Olympics to win gold.

image

I think she deserves some attention too.

thefrogman

When I was watching the competition I kept wondering why they never showed the actual target as it was being shot. On the broadcast they just show a graphic of the target.

image

And then the commentator said the bullseye was literally the size of a period—smaller than the actual pellets they are shooting. And that the entire target was the size of a coin.

image

They'd have to set up a macro lens next to every target for you to see them.

Pretty much every shot lands within the 3 inner circles. And if you hit the 3rd circle your shot is basically garbage. Like you'd see the shooters grimace and do an angry little foot stomp if they hit it there.

image

Like, if you get a 7 you might as well go home.

And the best shot possible is a 10.9—which would be hitting as close to the bullseye as can be measured.

This was Oh Ye-jin's final gold medal winning shot.

image

A 10.6!

It's absolutely bonkers how precise these shooters are.

I mean... look at this period...

.

Now imagine trying to shoot it from 30 feet away.

I don't think my old ass could even see the damned thing.

alexaloraetheris

Thank you for the context, my nearsighted ass did NOT know this.

For years, I poured my heart and soul into my work at Al-Shifa Hospital, striving to be a doctor of great repute,

caring for the wounded and the ill with compassion and skill.💉🩹

image

However😥,

the devastation of war disrupted our lives and prevented us from serving our patients at Al-Shifa Hospital😣💔,

forcing me to leave my cherished home and the familiar walls of the hospital that had become my second home, a place of comfort, peace, and beautiful memories of my work.😔

image
image
image

As I left behind the echoes of laughter and camaraderie with my colleagues, patients, and friends,😰

I embarked on a painful journey southward. I bid farewell to the streets where I grew up, the corners I sought refuge in😥😭💔, and the colleagues who felt like family.

Memories of my formative years and the countless lives I touched during my tenure at Al-Shifa 😣and other medical facilities, such as Friends of the Patient Hospital and the Indonesian Hospital, overwhelmed me as I struggled to come to terms with the upheaval.😔😥

Despite the adversities that besieged me,

I held fast to my dream of becoming a successful doctor. 😀😁✌💚

I was fortunate enough to study medicine at Al-Azhar University, from which I graduated and later served as a teaching assistant, imparting knowledge to aspiring medical students with unwavering dedication. 😀🙏🖤

image
image

The idea of specializing in internal medicine drew me back to Al-Shifa Hospital, but sadly,

the brutal war destroyed it, shattering my hopes. In the midst of the chaos and destruction brought by war🥺😣💔

image

I sustained multiple injuries and narrowly escaped with my life. 🥺

The sanctuary of my home, a place of peace and beautiful memories, was completely destroyed, leaving my family and me impoverished and homeless. 😣💔😰

image

Yet, amidst the ruins, a glimmer of hope persists as I continue my work at Al-Aqsa Hospital😀, extending a helping hand to those in need without expecting anything in return. I draw strength from the humanity and love instilled in me by my teachers and mentors during my years of education and service.✌😁❤

Today, we find ourselves taking refuge in a humble tent, ⛺ 😭😣💔

stripped of our possessions and livelihoods. The loss of my job, my home, and some of my loved ones is a heavy burden to bear. 😢

Nevertheless, I refuse to succumb to despair, holding on to the belief that brighter days lie ahead.

I love you all 🙏🙏♥️🌹

I am Mohammed Almanasra, 32 years old, married, and a father of three children: Abdulrahman, 6 years old, Sarah, 4 years old, and Lina, 3 years old.

image

My story began with the loss of my parents and four of my sisters, who were bombed and lost their lives along with their children after the events of October 7 and the severe war on Gaza. Now, I am facing a severe injury to my leg, which is at risk of amputation if I do not receive the necessary treatment. My wife, children, and I are displaced, without parents or siblings, and my wife is also suffering from uterine cancer.

image

Recently, I moved to the south of the Gaza Strip, fearing for the lives of my children. We left behind our memories and our new home, for which we had not finished paying the installments, in addition to losing my job. Currently, I live in a tent that does not protect me from the heat of summer or the cold of winter, and without the minimum necessary livinng basics including water, food medical care, clothe and even bedding .

image

I suffer from a chronic asthma and severe attacks from tightness and an extreme allergy in the ear and I need medicine that are not available, or very expensive .

image
image

Under these difficult circumstances, after five attempts at displacement and narrowly escaping death from the bombing, I am trying with all my might to protect my family, the most precious thing I have.

My dreams were shattered, and my house was destroyed, and I found myself living in a tent no larger than 4 square metres. My work turned from a tailor to a street vendor in order to barely buy a few crumbs of bread to feed my children.

image

Look at what happened to my children because of the intense heat and the insects that thrive in the summer season. Every day, I take them to the hospital to treat them due to poisonous insect bites. I implore every kind-hearted soul to help me protect my children.

image
image
image

My son, Abdul Rahman, has a deep passion for playing football and is a devoted fan of Real Madrid. He always dreamed of playing football at his school, but the war prevented this dream from coming true.

Where are you, Real Madrid fans ?

Help Abdul Rahman achieve his dream.

image

Every donation will make an enormous difference in helping me save my family.

I feel very sad and embarrassed to ask for help, but I have no other options left. I know that this request is difficult, but I also know that there is still humanity and living consciences and I believe in miracles.

Your support during this extremely difficult time will give us hope in the midst of devastation and despair.

If you have any inquiries or questions, feel free to ask me, please!

To everyone with a compassionate heart,

To all who understand the essence of humanity,

This is a message from my innocent children, who trust that their words will reach everyone who truly understands the meaning of childhood.

We cry out to you, asking you to feel our sorrow and pain, and to extend a helping hand to us in this time when we are in desperate need of your mercy and compassion.

I'm Amal, 33 years old. My husband Eyad is 39, and we have seven children: Hala (15), Nour (13), Abdelrahman (11), Mohammed (9), Omar (6), Ahmed (4), and baby Hoor, just 7 months old.

In the blink of an eye, we awoke to a devastating barrage of bombs. The war had begun, and soon tanks surrounded us as the northern Gaza Strip was declared off-limits. We fled immediately from the north, leaving behind my husband who had to stay with his elderly father who cannot walk. The presence of checkpoints and the prohibition of vehicles forced my husband to remain in the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in the north of Gaza.

My four-year-old son, Ahmed, suffers from diabetes. It is a constant struggle to find insulin injections and test strips. Weeks go by without being able to check his sugar levels, leaving me in fear of whether his levels are too high or too low.

Ahmed's condition break my heart

image

My children are the love of my life

image

I fled on foot, just ten days after giving birth. I carried my ten-day-old baby and my other young children, alone, fighting for their safety. A few days later, the northern Gaza Strip was completely isolated, leaving my husband trapped.

I cannot bear the panic attacks that Hoor suffers from the constant bombing

image

It was incredibly difficult to care for my children without my husband, moving from one place to another. I finally sought refuge in a shelter school in Deir Al-Balah.

My children have been deprived of their father, who used to provide all their needs. Their schooling has been halted, and their mental health is in ruins due to the war. My baby girl cannot get proper nutrition and is unable to sleep due to the constant sounds of bombs.

We share our room at school with 40 people, lacking water and sanitary supplies

image

My husband remains in the north, experiencing severe famine. Periodically, I manage to contact him, learning that he is still alive, but his situation is dire.

We want to escape Gaza and survive this tragic war, to build a decent life for my family, providing the basics of life: food, medical care, and a safe home.

Your donations can make a world of difference for us. Every dollar can help us escape this nightmare and start anew. Your generosity can reunite our family, provide essential medical care for Ahmed, and ensure my children grow up in a peaceful environment.

Your kindness and support mean everything to us. May God bless you for your compassion.

Greetings & Gratitude🙏

“Why is snoop dogg at the Olympics-“

WRONG QUESTION!

WHY ISNT MARTHA STEWART THERE WITH HIM?

softbrah

she is! she’s joining him for the equestrian events because, and I am quoting her directly, “Snoop is afraid of horses.”

butch-ragh-barkrock

Update:

image
gendernewtral

this is 100% real btw

elodieunderglass

In Paris this week, he said: “I am interested in the horses that dance and I want to give them some carrots and apples … make sure they’re fed before they do their thang.”

Stewart explained the pair’s dressage plan.

“Snoop called me and said he knows I know horses, and he’s a little fearful of horses,” the businesswoman, philanthropist and octogenarian Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model told NBC on Friday.

“I’m still scared of horses,” Snoop said.

“Have you ever ridden a horse?” Stewart asked.

“No,” said Snoop. “I’m scared.”

“So we’re gonna do dressage,” Stewart said.

This is so lovely and heartwarming that I almost didn't notice that Snoop's wearing knee high spats

He even got to feed them carrots like he wanted to, even though he seems to be nervous! Such courage and valor! /Gen!

This is clearly the coolest day of that white guy's life. It's the coolest day of the horse's life. This is the coolest day of all of our lives. Mr Dogg, thank you for being who you are.

Can we just take a sec to also thank Mr. Snoop Dog for saying that he was scared to do something and called a friend to help him. And then did the scary thing. I think that admitting you’re scared of something takes courage and inner strength.

Should we boycott wikipedia?

queeranarchism

No. 'Just boycott everything' isn't gonna work here. The strategy doesn't fit the target, for two reasons:

  • Wikipedia isn't harmed in any way if millions of people use a different source for their information. It doesn't significantly hurt them financially and at this point they're not very worried about any competitors in the online encyclopedia market. It's not an effective strategy.
  • Although there are zionists in the top tiers of Wikipedia, the main problem is deliberate campaigns by zionist editors to get these kinds of results.

If you have experience with doing Wikipedia edits, a good thing to do would be to edit Wikipedia, and not just by getting into an all-out editing war about 1 article. We gotta be smarter than that.

For example, there is currently also an article called Nuseirat Refugee Camp Massacre:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuseirat_refugee_camp_massacre
When I googled 'Nuseirat Massacre' this morning, this one showed up higher than 'rescue operation' because the word massacre matched my search term.

On articles like this, less experienced editors are still gonna have a hard time getting their edits approved. So if you're not an experienced editor: consider adding crucial details the less high profile articles, like the articles of every single Gazan hospital and town, but also articles people might not anticipate. Maybe add the latest statistics on child amputees to Disability in the State of Palestine:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disability_in_the_State_of_Palestine

Heck, try to get something about it in international articles about amputation and child disability?

This takes work, it takes research, but it's worthwhile stuff if you can make edits that last.
