Simulation of convection in a heated ethanol-water fluid layer. At top is the alcohol concentration; the bottom image shows streamlines of the mean velocity field (blue) and concentration current (green). In this simulation, localized convective flow is driven in a stable quiescent fluid at heating rates too low for any extended convection to occur.
