LPS structural difference between European and East-Asian H. pylori strains. LPS in European H. pylori strains (blue) usually harbors an intermediate heptan and glucan, whereas East-Asian strains (red) synthesize heptan-deficient LPS. It is worth pondering whether the heptan is acquired in European strains or lost in East-Asian strains during human migration out of Africa. See Li et al.
