Global systems change consultancy and institute helping leaders and organizations tackle complex problems.

About us

Leadership and strategy for systems change: We are a global consultancy and institute helping leaders and organizations tackle some of the world’s most complex problems. From our offices in Kenya, UK and USA, we have a long-standing record of impact on food systems, peace and inclusion, climate and nature. With our clients and partners, we're helping creating a more peaceful, equitable and sustainable world. A decade of transformative impact: From our work on the front lines, we’ve established a unique depth of understanding about what it takes to drive change at scale. For instance, we’ve partnered with the World Economic Forum to unlock inclusive private sector investment across Africa, worked with Yara to incubate the leading youth agripreneurship initiative on the continent, helped the UK’s National Grid devise it’s Net Zero Carbon Strategy, and worked with East African governments to understand and counter the threat of violent extremism. Working with the world’s leading organisations: We work with respected institutions spanning the development, government and private sectors, including USAID, the World Wide Fund for Nature, The Rockefeller Foundation, the NHS and Econet. They choose us for our applied understanding of system change, our relentless drive towards transformative action, our well-established regional understanding and networks and our positive approach to collaboration. A collaborative approach: Wasafiri, means “travellers” in Swahili, and was inspired by the phrase, “Traveller, there is no path: we make the path as we walk together.” This simple statement evokes a sense of how we will work with you; as trusted adviser and collaborator. Our people are change-makers and innovators; thematic experts, facilitators and researchers. They bring deep expertise, local insight, proven experience, and are a pleasure to work with.

There are great change makers everywhere when you look for them and this week Wasafiri’s Dr Kate Simpson has been facilitating a couple of panels at the Football For Sustainability Summit Both panels brought together people trying to distrupt footballs dominant business model and pioneer new parternships and new business models that harness footballs commercial power for social and environmental impact

Football has a powerful potential to help deliver the #sdgs but turning that potential into action has been slow and hard. Maybe in part because the current business model is just working so well for SOME. The last two days at the Football For Sustainability Summit #ffs24 has brought together over 300 people to work out how to make change happen. I’ve had the chance to facilitate two great panels and work in the shadow of the Brandenburg Gate Some initial headlines: 🏃♀️we need pioneers - investors, players, dreamers willing to experiment with new ways of doing things and especially new business models for football 📸we need to stop seeing players as just good for the photo op and invite them into deeper impact roles and relationships 🐘sustainability is a shared action problem - governing bodies / brands / players / civil society will have to collaborate (and no that doesn’t just mean sponsorship!!) Thanks to Sharon Thorne Shola Akinlade Lisa Währer Dan Dickinson Common Goal Impact Wasafiri

It's Friday and it's also Day 2 of the #FFSSummit. One of today's sessions touches on the most pressing issues of our time: climate change. While football alone can't save the world, collective efforts can achieve significant outcomes. At Wasafiri we #makegoodchangehappen through #systemschange. And what we have learnt is that change is collective. When tackling complex global challenges such as climate change, collaboration can drive significant progress in #climateaction. #FootballForGood #FFS24

Here’s our very own Jo Appleby with Footballing legends Rio Ferdinand and Juan Mata in #Berlin! Interviewed by Hadnet Tesafi at #FFS24 this morning, Ferdinand and Mata shared their perspectives on a new vision for football, and what we need to do to unleash its potential as a #forceforgood. Here’s what they had to say about creating meaningful change: 🌟It requires resilience 🌟Community is important 🌟It means leaving your ego at the door and embracing humility 🌟Shifting from competition to collaboration is vital 🌟It demands strong human values     Common Goal Wasafiri

Day 1 of Football For Sustainability Summit #FFS24 is underway! Dr Kate Simpson will be sharing her perspectives on #Collaboration today.    Collaboration – what do we even mean by that? The folks over at Common Goal believe it’s more than “partnerships” or “cooperation”, collaboration involves a deeper level of engagement to achieve a shared goal.  Agree? Thank you Impact for facilitating a wonderful summit!  #ffs24 #SustainabilityInSport

Here in Berlin and it’s all about football - and specifically football for sustainability With its massive participation and resource base football has a LOT of power so - how do we harness that to make #goodchangehappen ?? The Football For Sustainability Summit #ffs24 brings together corporate sponsors, governing bodies, grass roots activitists to use football to build communities, takle the climate crisis, tackle inequality and take action on the #SDGs Thanks to Impact for the invite and a fun panel session on the joys and challenges of collaboration (and a bad post action photo) with Dorcas Amakobe of and Hamzah Sarwar Moving the Goalposts (MTG) Wasafiri Common Goal
