it really hurts me to see so many gazans asking us for help, though that's through no fault of their own. they've been forced to use a social media site that they're probably not familiar with (because tumblr has kind of faded out of popular consciousness), to interact with us in a second language, to distinguish themselves from the scammers who are taking advantage of genocide, and to ask strangers for help. i don't think there are any cultures where it's easy to ask for help like this, but i'm intimately familiar with how humiliating it can be in arab culture. please be kind, gracious and helpful to the gazans in your inbox. this is a desperate time for them, and in addition to the physical danger inflicted by "israel", the prices of basic resources in gaza are extremely high due to scarcity, and those that manage to escape to egypt are financially exploited by landlords there and have an extremely difficult time finding work due to their unofficial status as refugees. these families will continue to need our help and i hope we can all continue to provide it to the best of our ability.

But how can I tell if they are real:

Any advice?

Yes! Use tumblr’s search feature to look up their URLs. If they’ve been vetted by Palestinians, there will be a post about it. The users el-shab-hussein and nabulsi made a vetted fundraisers spreadsheet that comes up in a lot of search results too, I’m on mobile and don’t have it on hand presently but it’s easy to find!

Another fundraiser I'd like to bring more attention to is that of Munna and her family.

Munna has 3 children, Rima, who is a teenager, Salah, an 11 year old, and Lina, who is only 5 years old. Their family has been forced to evacuate and they've been living in a small tent for the last 9 months of this ongoing genocide. They've faced countless dangers, from the threat of Israeli artillery to the famine and shortage of clean water.

Below you can see a video of young Lina, speaking about her family's situation

This family is saving up the funds currently to evacuate to Egypt, where they will be safe and the children will be able to continue their education and receive proper nutrition and healthcare.

This fundraiser is extremely low on funds, having not even reached £1000 of their end goal of £30,000. Every donation will go towards helping this family and every share spreads young Lina's message further.

Help Ahmed 💔

Ahmed, our 4-year-old child, suffers from diabetes. Amid the war, his condition has severely worsened due to the lack of his medication and insulin. We struggle monthly to obtain the necessary insulin needles for him, at exorbitant prices and with great difficulty❤️‍🩹💔.

image

Ahmed needs .4 gauge needle tips suitable for his age, but he has been forced to use .8 gauge needles, which cause him great pain, making him cry every time he receives an insulin injection. However, today Ahmed is very happy because we managed to get .4 gauge needle tips after nine months of pain🥹🥹.

Ahmed is supposed to have a special diet for diabetes, but he is forced to eat whatever is available here since the appropriate food is not accessible, which harms his health.

Ahmed should check his blood sugar levels 3 to 5 times daily, but due to the unavailability of test strips, we only test him when absolutely necessary, which happens about once a week.

Help Ahmed obtain his most basic right, which is the right to treatment. You can help by sharing the campaign link or donating🙏🏻🙏🏻. Here is the campaign link:

Emergency, read my story and help me ‼️

Please Share Or Replog Or Donate For My Family 💔🙏

I am reham, his condition, and all the families of Gaza are very difficult, they do not have the necessities of life, no medicine, no food, no health, no education, nothing but death and destruction I appeal to everyone who sees my campaign to stand by my family, Whether by donating or sharing the story with your friends to raise an amount that will help my family get out of Gaza safely 💔🍉

I am a nurse at Nasser and Al-Khair Hospital in Khan Yunis I also used to work for Dentist K But at the present time, I have lost my job, which was a source of income for me and my family in the past, and now all I will have left is the donation link that I made in order to help my family, about thousands. But it takes timeI hope to achieve the goal of my campaign.

I also want to do charitable work and spread the first aid course to children and women because we really need that urgently at the present time because of this war and genocide that we are exposed to.I lost my brother because of this war, and I really miss him. The loss is painful.

I have been afflicted with a great emptiness and depression because of his distance from me. I hope you pray for him too, may God have mercy on him. 💔🥺🙏

Donate 5$ enough the change my life

A tech outage providing more relief to the Palestinian people than “the most hardworking, peace-loving politicians” and their vacant “negotiations” https://t.co/MGfBZat5pE — Aditi (@aditilrao) July 19, 2024ALT

While I'm very glad this provided a relief, let's not let it be lost on us that it's that easy for them (or anyone else down the chain) to stop a genocide. Had it happened on purpose it'd be an example of how easy tech (and other) companies could stop this; an example for others to do the same. Instead, it's an example of how greed can convince you to justify, aid, and abet genocide.

None of these rich people or the politicians who pay them have any intention of helping anyone. They could with the literal press of a button. They showed us that. And every single moment since then they've shown us that they made the choice not to push that button.

None of them deserve to keep standing.

I’ve noticed lately that it’s often Americans who leave tags like “I don’t even care if it’s made up” on posts I make that are not particularly unbelievable, but are pretty specific to my way of life or corner of the world (like the one about the cheese vendor). It reminds me of that tweet that was circulating, that said Americans have a “medieval peasant scale of worldview”—I mean, if you don’t want to be perceived this way by the rest of the world maybe don’t go around social media saying that if a cultural concept or way of life sounds unfamiliar it must be made up?

It’s the imbalance that’s annoying, because like—when I mentioned having no mobile network around here I had people giving me info about Verizon to fix my problem. I post some rural pic and someone says it must be somewhere in the Midwest because the Southwest doesn’t look like this. My post about my postwoman has thousands of Americans assuming it’s about the USPS. On my post about my architect there’s someone saying “it’s because architecture is an impacted major” and other irrelevant stuff about how architecture is taught in the US. This kind of thing happens so so so often and I’m expected to be familiar with the concepts of Verizon and the Midwest and impacted majors and the USPS and meanwhile I make a post about my daily life and Americans in the notes are debating like “dunno if real. it sounds made up”

Going online for the rest of the world means having to keep in mind an insane amount of hyperspecific trivia about American culture while going online for Americans means having to keep in mind that the rest of the world really exists I guess
