Steward requests/Permissions

This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

 • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
 • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
 • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

Username@xxproject
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

 • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
 • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
 • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Administrator access

Steward requests/Permissions/Sysop-header

I ask to give me admin rights. I'm a very active user in my local wikibooks (+5000 edits) and I need access to this right for making deeper changes there. By the way because of low number of currently active users, no consensus is possible: [1]. --Doostdar (talk) 07:06, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please start a local vote or announcement anyway, link it here and leave it up for at least a week. Ajraddatz (talk) 03:18, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I announced it here, here and here. Now I'm waiting for your vote. --Doostdar (talk) 17:48, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On hold until 27 July the first url is where the vote would take place.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:00, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done Granted for 3 months to expire on 2014-10-27. --Shanmugamp7 (talk) 06:17, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.--Doostdar (talk) 09:18, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tucoxn@fjwikipedia

Pending the outcome of the community discussion, I am requesting that my temporary admin privileges be reinstated at fj.wikipedia. I have been carrying out local admin actions since being granted the rights in May 2013. The community is extremely small and I do not expect much participation in the discussion — it is not big enough to support a permanent admin.

Please keep this decision "on hold" until the outcome of the on-wiki discussion is determined on 1 Okosita (August 1). Vinaka vakalevu! - ʈucoxn\talk 00:38, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

On hold until 1 August as per request  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:32, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done Granted for 1 year to expire on 2015-8-2. --Shanmugamp7 (talk) 05:47, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. - ʈucoxn\talk 22:45, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Satdeep gill@pawikipedia

I have been given temporary adminship for 3 months and then for 6 months. I would like temporary adminship to be given for longer duration this time. At least an year. Satdeep gill (talk) 03:04, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 On hold until August 2--Shanmugamp7 (talk) 06:34, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done Granted for 1 year to expire on 2015-8-2. --Shanmugamp7 (talk) 05:57, 2 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Because of the decay of his admin flag. --Tn4196 (talk) 14:49, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'd prefer to see a separate announcement for him. I don't see any mention of him in the initial post there, and his own comment seems to be a question, not an indication that he is running for extended admin access. Ajraddatz (talk) 14:55, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
In the initial post I asked opinions about all old admins but not Candalua, who is no longer involved in the project. GatoSelvadego's question was about the possibility to ask the permanent flag, but I have supposed that the local community isn't enough big yet. I don't consider to start a new discussion essential. --Tn4196 (talk) 15:11, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Even if there is no community to discuss it, our own best practices require that some announcement be put up which specifically identifies itself as a request for adminship for a specific user. After a week, if there is no opposition or comments, then I will grant him temporary adminship. I cannot grant adminship based on a generic discussion in which he did not specifically request the rights or accept a nomination. Thanks, Ajraddatz (talk) 17:40, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
 on hold until at least 4 August I started a new discussion. --Tn4196 (talk) 20:33, 27 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Done Granted for 1 year to expire on 2015-08-04. To prolong your (interface) adminship, please start another election a few days before your temporary access expires, and after a week post your request again to this page. Thanks. -- Avi (talk) 14:43, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

L2212@scwikipedia

I request temporary admin rights on sc.wikipedia. One of the two admins is not contributing since 2010, and now there are nor elections nor a lively community to vote.--L2212 (talk) 18:46, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please, start a local discussion. Ruslik (talk) 18:58, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On hold until 7 August election proceeding.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:43, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat access

Steward requests/Permissions/Crat-header

Hello there. Hereby it is requested to grant a bureucrat access on Kazakh Wikipedia to me. The voting period is over with 100% positive votes. --Qarakesek (talk) 18:15, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You first need to ask the existing bureaucrat User:Ashina to act (and wait some time to see if he responds) before stewards can consider this request. --MF-W 20:08, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
User:Ashina is not active. He dont answer to question.--Kaiyr (talk) 07:33, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On hold until 30 July I have pinged the 'crat on their kkWP user talk page, and we should wait seven days for the 'crat to respond.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:25, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
After 7 days from the above request, I have given bureaucrat flag. Thank you, M/ (talk) 21:44, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

<translate>

 • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
 • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
 • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.</translate>

Bhawani_Gautam@newiki

Reasons for removal
 1. Agreed on the removal of the permission here
 2. Misuse of power , making user sysop without proper community consensus here
 3. Mostly inactive inactive for long period (Please look at Monthly Stats) in newiki.

- Nirmal Dulal (talk) 16:40, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that we can do anything about this. Has there been a vote to remove his rights? Or, have you asked him to come here and resign? --Rschen7754 18:03, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I asked him to resign here. Then He put his resination here and also told that he'd put it on meta, but later he removed it himself. -Nirmal Dulal (talk) 01:40, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done under those circumstances, you will need to start a community discussion on whether to remove his privileges. Please come back when you have done so. --Rschen7754 01:50, 13 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I love wikipedia and worked for the progress as bcrate and sysop. I am against familism and any type of discrimition. Ne.wikipedia is now dominated by particular family and their relatives. There is no consensus rule to give sysop and bcrat status, i was compelled to give sysop status a female contributor on the basis of her contributon to balance the situation and break the lobbies. I am lone indian sysop and bcrat on that project remaining are from Nepal. I request you to remove all b'crats and reduce the numbers of sysops as it was done on Hindi wiki before.Bhawani (talk) 17:04, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

... every on can see, In NE.wiki, there are b'crats, sysop and other contributor from different places and families. I think community is against his wrong work, So he just want to destroy every thing before he leaves.-Nirmal Dulal (talk) 00:43, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

 • this user was given sysop status on basis votes but now i came to know it is either fake or is run by this user. this useris b'crat all from from Dulal family. They are campaigning against me. i want progress of ne.wikipedia.pl compare 25 thousand stubs (articles) to 15 sysops and 4 bureaucrats. Please remove all bureaucrats and sysops. And there is no need of b'crat within community. I suggest to appoint sysops only for this small project. I am neither leaving nor want to destroy. I will continue to work...Bhawani (talk) 03:31, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I object the point that this user is fake , almost all community members have seen her , she has taken part in many Wikimedians meetup held in Kathmandu . Please find the reference to the discussion in the mailing list here , just posting this with the intent that will help Stewards make decision , apologies otherwise !--सरोज कुमार ढकाल (talk) 04:34, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Enough campaigning, it is improper to do that on this page, your bickering belongs on your own wiki. One of the stewards will review the case, especially as now we have been pointed to the de-admin process. As there is claim and counter-claim, it will take some time for one of us to wade through this. Changing it to  On hold.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:05, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It should probably remain open a few more days, to be sure that everyone has voted. --Rschen7754 17:16, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Nirmal Dulal and Ganesh Paudel: Does neWP have any particular rules that relate to the removal of an administrator? If there any such rules, eg. voting period, number of votes, etc. would you please quote those here in English, and add any relevant url. Also, could you please confirm whether the discussion specifically states that the discussion is for 1)removal of admin rights, or 2) removal of bureaucrat rights, or 3) removal of admin and bureaucrat rights. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:14, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We have applied here to revoke both the Admin and Bureaucrat right of Mr. Bhawani Gautam. We have made rules to give a contributor admin right but he intentionally misused his power and provided Admin right against the rules. We have some provision to revoke the power here. It says if an administrator or a bureaucrat misuses his power community can request to stewards to revoke the power. and if needed community can discuss here about this matter. Thanks! - Nirmal Dulal (talk) 15:28, 21 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

With 9 out of 11 people supporting the desysop, and all of them being admins or people with at least a few hundred edits, I'm leaning towards removing the rights. Admittedly, I haven't read the discussion or run it through translation software. Waiting to see what other stewards think. --Rschen7754 05:35, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Depending on any neWP policy that puts specific conditions for removal, hence my questions previously, I am in agreement with you.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:36, 25 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please remove my both status, thanks-Bhawani (talk) 14:29, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I thank User:Restu20 for his work as a sysop. --Euphydryas (msg) 15:40, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Is it usual for there to be no courtesy warning, or check with the user prior to the removal of their rights?  — billinghurst sDrewth 16:11, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Removal is "automatic", but the requesting sysop has left a message on the relevant user talk. --M/ (talk) 16:13, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Is not normal: as far as I'm concerned, I unfortunately I realized only now (in those days I was offline) Thanks. --Euphydryas (msg) 16:16, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the policy does not require notification, like on most wikis. Done, with thanks to the user for their service as an administrator. Snowolf How can I help? 16:41, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
